In honor of my new hot tub, I was wondering what methods you guys use to ease the pain after a full day/weekend of water sports?

I just do Martini's...

I think you can also get Naproxen (prescription strength...Naprosyn???). I buy it when I'm in Mexico City under the name Noxen. No prescription required ;)

I try to keep a handful of Vicodin on hand for those really rough "bell ringers"... Like last weekend, possibly last barefoot run of the year. I was feeling fine before I went, did a flying dock start with a driver that had no idea what he was doing. Obviously missed the start, ate it hard, and ended up at Urgent Care later in the night with a tremendous pain in both ears. Turns out the barefoot fall had nothing to do with it, but instead was a double ear infection. Threw down a few Vicodin and I was good to go!

Other than that, the beer is usually flowing before the last skier is even done, so I normally just dull my pain that way!:toast:

After my shoulder injuries, I have a lifetime perscription of Vicodin and Naproxen. I only use those if I really tweak myself and cannot sleep. Otherwise, it is Exedrin.....

:) However, when it comes to serious pain, when you have to get that one last ride in... Darvies or Perc's are the only way. Hot tub with a white russian or two to follow up is very nice too.

Lots of Advil for me. Often with some Jack or Stoli's.

I love my hot tub, but it's not the best thing when my back acts up. That usually requires ice, advil, and booze. Not necessarily in that order.

Actually, my favorite is martini and ibuprofen.
Unfortunately, I don't have a busted up knee or shoulder or back problems to justify any prescription meds...
But I'm working on it! ;)

Ok, I picked Aleve, but I also use beer, martini's the hot tub, and an occasional Ibruprofen.

Wow to read that, you would think I am addicted to pain killers.

Been an awesome summer that I hate to see end, but I have managed to pull both shoulders at different times, twist an ankle, and after an out the front, took the ski to the face and had about a 10 minute nose bleed. I always say if you don't fall, you are not trying hard enough, but this summer has been a bit over the top for me.

Just had morphine the other day, for the first time!! Now that is some good stuff. But if you really want to knock out pain and not get the munchies or feel like you are being watched.....go for the Vicoprofin with a beer chaser. ;) ;) Feels great and wont slow you down.....too much. Hubby was on constant surveilance with me and the morphine!! I kept sneaking to the fridge to get some food.....the end of this prgnancy was hard!! Hence the good stuff!!:D

I voted for the Tex option for pain, but I really don't take much for painkillers. My new favorite anti-inflammatory is Naproxen though. Seems to work better than Ibuprofen.

Morphine is some good stuff! I had a big, bad kidney stone several years back and was given it in the Emergency room, passed the stone there and was sent home, Lynn went to work after settling me in. That was back in the day when you paid your local phone company for long distance calls and when the bill came in the following month, I had made $68 worth of calls that I never knew I made, cause I was so high! :D

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have concerns taking pain killers before or after consuming alcohol. IIRC, that is a huge no-no with Tylenol as far as your kidneys/liver are concerned. Any thoughts as to the others, specifically ibuprofen or aspirin?

I've heard both sides of it. There is a warning on tylenol I beleive. But, look how many warnings are on your skis and boats. You have an extra liver..right?

Just kidding about the liver thing!

I seem to recall that the liver/kidney damage is a concern with acetaminophen and alcohol. With advil and aspirin, it seems that gastrointestinal bleeding and/or perforation of the GI tract was a concern.

Going by memory here, but some guy won a huge settlement from one of the companies (Tylenol?) because they didn't warn him that combining alcohol with the Tylenol would destroy his liver (or kidneys). This guy chased two Tylenols with a glass or two of wine at dinner every night for several years.

Ya think???

I'm no doctor, but I doubt that washing down a Motrin with a beer or martini a couple times a month (not every night) will kill me...

Acetaminophen for me.
Before I had surgery my neck I was on 800mg of Ibuprofen. That stuff caused me some problems after a while.

I took a ski in the ribs once and had badly brused ribs, the doc put me on Vioxx. That was the best stuff (so I thought at the time). After 2 days I thought I was healed and stopped taking the drug. I soon realized it was going to take a while to heal and Vioxx was great in killing the pain.
Too bad it also killed so many people that was taking it....

A good friend of ours died due to the liver shutting down from Tylenol cold. She was not feeling good and went to the emergency room on a Sunday and died on Wednesday of the same week. The autopsy showed a destruction of the liver due to Tylenol overdose. Be careful with any pain meds and follow the directions on the label.

Tylenol and booze would really only be a problem if you are really ramping up the dosages of both, eitehr all at once or over a long period of time. Asprin is really only going to make you bleed if you already know you are prone to bleeding. Actually I do believe ASA (asprins) effects are only on low doses used for cardiovascular reasons (160-325mg) Once you start using asprin for pain or fever (1000mg or so) the anticoagulation (platelet aggregation inhibition) effects are less. Ibuprofen, torodol (non steriodal antiinflammatories) can be problems for asthmatics and same with asprin (about 20% of patients with asthma may have an asthma attack from ASA).

So either way we're screwed, lets mix. I'll take percocet and booze (mild doses).

I play golf with a doc who is a pain management specialist. He told me to take three 200 mg Advil liquigels and two regular strength tylenol ad the same time (they metabolize differently). It has done a world of good for knees shoulder and back.

I just do Martini's...

I think you can also get Naproxen (prescription strength...Naprosyn???). I buy it when I'm in Mexico City under the name Noxen. No prescription required ;)

You can buy the generic naproxen at walmart no prescription required... The prescription version is just twice the dosage of the OTC. (I have both)

Advil and beer for me........unless the misses wants a drink, then I'll mix whatever she wants and have one myself.
