View Full Version : Draining Tranny fluid

I would like to drain and replace my tranny fluid before the boat is put away for the winter.
What is the best way to do this?
And how much oil does a 2003 X-2 tranny hold? with the MXC.

I use a suction type pump. I usually get a couple of quarts out, and put the exact amount back in

On mine which is an older boat/trans the spec is to check your fluid at temp, so I added a mark to my trans dip stick for the cold level after it was warmed up.
Then I use a suction pump to remove, and replace to my cold mark. its normally less than a quart in mine, but its a direct drive and a different transmission.
Typically since its so cheap to replace a few quarts I do this a few times a summer to ensure no water infiltration.

Remove your filter/strainer clean it and pull your oil out through the filter pipe. If you pull the oil out through the dip stick you will only get about half of the oil out. Refill with Rotella (about 4.5 quarts).
