I was useing the boat (1991 marister 210 454) for the last time this year. for the first time since I owned it the temperature guage read 240 and it beeped. It happened after I had been pulling a skier and had the engine off for a few minutes. When I turned it on the guage went form 240 then instantly down to around 160. it stays 140 - 160 when the motor is running, and then when I turn it off, then on again it goes to low 200's then quickly down to 150. Is that something to worry about? It only got hot enough to beep at me once. Any thoughts?

Yes, something to be concerned about. It's common for an engine to go hot after the it's shut down, but you have to worry about overheating due to something (weeds) blocking the transmission cooler, a shredded impeller, or a defective thermostat.

Start by pulling the hose from the tranny cooler, if no weeds, check the impeller.
