This is my first post, I bought a 92 190 Prostar and had a great first summer. I started to winterize this weekend preparing for a cold Canadian winter. Engine was hot and I drained the oil but was suprised at how little I was able to drain, at best about 3 quarts (approx 3litres). I changed the filter and used synthetic oil.

How much oil should a 351 take to fill? I changed the oil on a 97 Ford truck with a 4.6l and it takes between 5-6 quarts.

5 total, which includes about half a quart in the filter.

How long did you let it drain? Mine dribbles for 1/2 hr.+ before it stops.

Thanks to all, I let it drain for at least a half hour. I got curious and clean the hose end to blow air up the line trying to see if there was still oil in the oil pan. No bubbling and it seemed empty, I did fill the filter prior to installing.

I'll check the oil level again to be sure there's enough in there.

4 qts puts the level a touch past the full mark on my dipstick.....I stop there.
