We are looking to update/upgrade to a newer boat. I am not up-to-date on the changes in hulls / powertrain in the newer models. We are trying to choose between a 2002 197 TT and a 2005 197. The hours per year are similar. I know there have to be some differences but are they worth the added cost of a newer model.

The hulls on the boats are the same, but the vinyl is different in the boats.

I would go with the 2005......

2002 197 TT will have throttle cable

2005 197 will have DBW (drive by wire) [if it is MCX or LQ9 it is DBW, I am not sure about the 310??]

Its the same hull, so it would matter to me:
1. Engine
2. Tranny
3. Single / Doube Axle trailer

for the exact same boat I would probably want 4-8K discount on the older boat

It really depends on the price of each boat. If they are similar in price, I would go with the 2005 because it is newer. Age may help resale down the road as well

Have you been through East Texas Skiers boat buying guide? Generally by the time you go through this you figure out which boat is the better deal.

I may be wrong, but I thought 2005 = hooked hull and 2002 = no hook.

2002 TT's had the hook, while the regular 2002 190/197's (consumer ediiton) did not ... allegedly

I'd go with the 2005...It'll be worth it in the end

Just out of curiousity, what lake are you on?
