Are you going to be rebuilding the engine or doing any upgrades on the engine as well?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Prostar Richi rebuilt the engine already only reason is cause the previous owner chipped teeth on the cam shaft and the only thing that was done is replaced the distributor so i had to pull all the guts out of the engine and rebuild it that way its not the best looking engine but it does the job

Do you plan on painting yourself? I would think that you would have to paint the top half, then at a different time pick it up by an overhead crane to paint the bottom half to get what the trailer has covered.

Not the type of thing the average guy can do in his garage....

Not the type of thing the average guy can do in his garage....well i have talked with a few people from on here and they say u can take the boat off the trailer by using cinder blocks to have the boat rest of so im going to try that and see how that works , and a buddy of mine is going to paint it im doing all the hard labor pre stuff like sanding and taking all the extra stuff off

Doctor vold,

What was the status of the boat when you started, i.e. was it all painted and you removed the paint down to the original gel coat? I had an 87 with that same white/grey color scheme.

The other idea on painting is to hang it from the front hook and the two rear hooks to suspend it in the air. however, this is a little dangerous, so you go first! good luck and keep the pics coming. this rivals sheps refurb. both are great and interesting.

drbesvold1
02-08-2008, 09:48 AM
im paint scheme is going to be pretty close to what 35th aniversrys boat looks like

drbesvold1
02-08-2008, 09:50 AM
yea i took the paint off to the gel coat and i dont think i have to tools to hook up and lift the boat nor does that sound safe im better off using a jack and putting cinder blocks to hold it

Hey the lift idea is not all wet. The MC dealer at the lake has a lift and I used it many times to lift while I cleaned and waxed the bottom. The trick was doing it when they weren't busy. One hook at front and two on the back. No problem as my boat hung like that for hours. MC dealer is gone, but lift is still there!

Covi
02-18-2008, 07:06 PM
drbesvold1, Do you think the new 6" lift kit (base) will allow enough support if you are leaning back in the seat. Will it pull the bolts/screws out of the plywood? Just a concern? I'd hate to see you get on the throttle and end up back-flipping to the back of the boat. Maybe dipping the plywood in appoxy would allow for more strenth. Anyhow, project looks good keep up the good work. Can't wait for final pics!!!

There should have been a FIBERGLASS base that your seat sliders where mounted to. DO NOT GET RID of it. You may find that mounting the seat to that base allows for more distribution of weight vs the 6 or 8 screws that hold that metal swivel base. That base has some angle to it also.

Alright DR., I have a question. Why is the rear vent on the motorbox, not centered? I had the exact same motorbox on my prostar 190, and I don't remember the vent being off centered. Also, if you're intrested, i've got a box full of mirrors that are cut to the smae shapes as the shapes of that motorbox. I used them back in the day, when I used to compete in Boat owners reunions. The center peice actually has been etched with a mastercraft decal. I wish I had some pics of it, but that was prior to the digital era.:D I'd be willing to let them go CHEAP!

back when I used to show my boat, I had mirror peices cut to fit INSIDE the motorbox. The insides were carpeted, like yours, so I stuck velcro strips on the backs of the mirrors and they inturn, stuck to the carpet. Each piece was cut perfectly to the different shapes in the motorbox. Now, you DON"T wanna keep them there all the time, but if you EVER take it to a reunion where there's boat judging, it adds a great touch to the motor. Hell. you're doing all this work on this boat, might as well add a few details. Ask TMC#1, its ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS!

That info is in the FAQ section about the Boat Buddy in General Discussion, here, http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showpost.php?p=425858&postcount=48

I would also hope you remove the fenders and guide bars on the trailer to clean it up and paint/powdercoat it, cause under the fenders in the framework is alot of chips, rust and problem areas that will return all to quick if not addressed.

Well your finances are your business, but you should be able to get good quality pinstripes from these guys for less than $50: http://www.sharpline.com/auto.html And they're easy to apply.
That's what I used on my boat and they are a really nice finishing touch.
Whatever you decide, the boat looks fantastic.

shepherd
05-14-2008, 10:12 PM
Look at other boats. On my '90, the pinstriping covered the seam between the two colors as shown here. I used black and silver pinstripes on the sides, and a single black pinstripe on the upper sides.

drbesvold1
05-14-2008, 10:13 PM
What Color Of Pin Stripe Would I Use Then ?

Sodar
05-14-2008, 10:16 PM
Pin striping is a nice way to "finish up" the transition between colors. I would go with a metallic grey and the use the same color to stripe the trailer.

shepherd
05-14-2008, 10:17 PM
ON my '03 35th anniv boat, there are just two wide pinstripes, above and below the black side part as shown here (actually, those two stripes are painted in the gelcoat on this boat, but you can achieve the same effect with pinstripe tape). This may be more like the look you're shooting for.

Well The Only Thing I Can Think Of Doing Is Doing A White Pin Stripe On The Black

Yeah, that would be the only way to do it, since the black terminates at the rubrail. Two white stripes would really tie it together nicely!

I'm confused, if you've got to put the engine back together after the painting is done, what engine is in the boat while priming, painting and now that the painting is done?

Good point! I went back and looked at your pics again. Like Sodar said, a couple white stripes near the edges of the black would look nice.

Experiment. The pinstripe is cheap enough to try different combinations. If you dont like it, you can always peel it off and try something else.

ok harold ill look is this area then

OK, see the area, photo#1, beside the shaft log with the 2 hose clamps, behind the big brass nut on the shaft behind the coupling, on the starboard side in the bilge where it looks like the area is cut out with a saw and thinner and has been black gel coated over to blend the shaft tube into the hull, that's the area to place the transducer in epoxy, after the area has been cleaned.

OK, I'm not dismantling my boat to take a pic from above, so here is a picture from behind the engine/transmission on the starboard side showing the transducer beside the shaft log/stuffing box. That black puck looking thing with the flanges on top is the transducer, between the shaft log and the blower hose, epoxyed to the hull,

I sincerely hope you attempt to remove the fishing line wrapped around your prop before you run the boat when you get finished!

That's why it's called a "Shoot Through the Hull" transducer if that's what you purchased!
Right, clean the gelcoat in the area you are going to epoxy at with a good solvent to remove, grease, etc. and slowly mix up the epoxy with as few bubbles in it as possible, put down a wad of epoxy a little bigger than the transducer and place it, mashing it down from one side to the other, so as to push out any air that may be underneath it. Leave it alone to set, do not move it, wipe up the excess epoxy, or pull it up, till the epoxy has cured the required time or you'll screw it all up. The epoxy and hull fiberglass becomes one solid mass for the transducer to shoot through and any air/bubbles will interfere with the transducers ability to work right.
I hope you also read the depth finder instasllation instructions too just to verify what I have posted.

I really like the graphics, but the roll bar is going to have to grow on me. It has come a long way from where you started! Did you keep track of how many hours or $s it took to get there? You could do one of those "priceless" comercials with the last frame you on the water with your boat....priceless!

Great job!:toast:
