Hey all!

Since I have a blown tweeter (separates), I'm looking at upgrading my 'cabin' speakers, but need to know the mounting depths of the current speakers. Does anyone know: 1) The mounting depth of the Clarion CM1632, and/or 2) The available mounting depth clearance in the Prostar 205V/X1 (former X-star, X2, ... 8p ), specifically in the bow?

Thanks!
Paul

For what it's worth, I replaced all of my Clarion 1632s with the JL M770-CCS speakers. They sound so much better. I had no issues with mounting depth.

Do your bow speakers mount directly to the fiberglass or do they mount thru your seatback cushions? Mine mount directly thru fiberglass (see picture).

Your speakers have a mounting depth of 3.15", so your response could be very helpful.

Thanks!

Mine mount to the fiberglass, but the X1 has a spacer that is 3/4 to an inch in thickness that must be needed for clearance issues with the JL speakers.

On my X-30, the bow speakers mount directly to the fiberglass like yours in the picture. I had no issues with depth when mounting the JLs.

Good luck. Let me know if you need pictures. It appears you have enough room to put the larger JLs in there with them running into the cushions. Mine do run into my cushions a little, but not much.

Depending upon which speakers you choose you will might have to make a spacer.

I'm looking at Polks. With the materials they use, they are marine certified.

1st choice (used in CC's):
MOMO's MMC6500 ( http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/mmc6500/ ). 6.5 with satellite tweeters. Almost a direct replacement, but hey are a little deeper, especially with the magnet boot.

Driver Mounting Depth
Top Mount 2-11/16" with boot. I think it's 2-5/16" without boot.

2nd choice:
Polk db 5601 ( http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/db6501/ ). No boot and top mounting depth is 2".

One way to find out....buy a set and give em a try!!

If you need more clearance I would pick up some of that plaid carpet from the 40th boats and just cover the fiberglass in the bow to gain you some depth.....should net you between .5-1". Plus you can say you have LTD edition speaker mounts and it will look more like those cool BU boats!! Lol!

The Polk MMC6500's come with a spacer, its about 1/2" deep.

I installed the Polk Momo MMC6500s in my 2004 MC OEM tower speaker cans. Mine did not come with a spacer rather they came with a mounting ring (black nylon material) that is used to mount the speakers in a car door. I had to have some custom aluminum spacer plates made to get the tweeters to fit into the tweeter locations.

I have a bunch of pictures on my work laptop but they are just a little too big to put on the TMC web site. I would be happy to email to you.

PM me your email address.
