For those of you without tower-mounted mirrors, with ProStar 197 & 209 and X7 & X9 (190 has no walkthru), how do you have your mirror mounted? My mid-year '01 209 has the mirror mounted on the top of the walkthru door/window. Nick's earlier 209 has it on the observer's side. I think the newer boats have it on the driver's side, as close to the walkthru as possible.

With my mirror mounted to the top of the walkthru door/window, I can't open the walkthru when my bimini is up...so I want to relocate it.

Anyone have any close-up pics of your driver's-side mounting? Do all the newer boats (newer than my 2001) have it on top of the windshield frame on the driver's side? Any newer boats not have it there?

TIA

Bill

slap a tower on it and you will love the tower mounted mirror!

01 X-Star, mirror mounted on passenger side windshield frame. Works well there, and doesn't impede my forward vision. I am tall and usually look over the windshield.

I was wondering about the passenger side location. Mine definately gets in the way of foward vision if you raise the seat bolster. :twocents:

2002 209 here. My mirror is mounted above observers seat. And, I wish it was on driver's side because it is hard to see out of when I have a passenger (and a bald friend leaves head prints when his head bumps it!)

Not the right year but it might get the point across...... I have them mounted on both sides of the windshield. Didn't do the middle because then you can't prop it open, plus it makes the window that much heavier. Passengers in the spotter's seat get in the way of the mirror on that side if they sit right in the middle...... have them sit to one side or the other & it's not a problem.

I love it because I can see across the entire wake. Plus I can sort of watch the skier & glance at whoever I'm talking with easily..... or watch where I'm going & glance at the skier, depending on which mirror I'm looking at. Plus I like how it makes the boat look more symetrical....... yea, yea, petty, I know.

I've got a 2002 197 with the mirror mounted on the windshield frame above the driver dash. When the dealer mounted it, the mirror blocked my view. I monkeyed around with it and now it is where I like it; above the entire windshield. The only drawback is that I have to remove the mirror to put the cover on. Good luck!

Here's apic of mine on the walkthru
still havent pulled a skier so I dont know if I like it yet.
In my case, the boat arrived with the mirror in a box as a dealer installed item. That is probably the case for all late model boats so
it may be a matter of preference to whomever installs it.
I asked them to put mine on the walkthru because I DID NOT like the in-your-face style of the mirror mounted on the driver's side windshield frame in my buddy's '99 model 205.

If you have a tower the tower mount is the only way to go, elimnates any blind spots you get with the winshield mount...

Jeeze...I know my posts are wordy, but you didn't even get to the fifth word?? :)

Seems like most don't have it on the drivers side above the windshield where I thought I would put it. Back to the drawing board...

How do you like that location? It is flipped up above the window frame, correct? Does it impede your forward vision? Got any pictures you could post, especially detailing the bracket locations.

Looks like it was a chilly ride - jacket, gloves......I'd do it!

Bill,

I did read your post. However I saw some pictures of others boats that had towers and still had the mirrors mounted on the windsheild. That was were my observation came from.

Only problem I'd have is I keep the boat on the dock for 8 months out of the year. The mirrors are under the cover & out of sight..... out of mind. Of the 4 yrs I've owned this boat twice people have gone thru the boats on my dock & stolen a bunch of things, ropes, boards, skis, mirrors, suits, vests, speakers etc. And neither time did they touch mine..... went right to the next boat.
Now I live in a new area, but I'm still not sure I trust anyone well enough to leave any equipment in the boat.

yes it was a cloudy chilly day but it was the maiden voyage so we didnt think twice about it

btw, the pic doesnt show it but that boat does have a tower and I thought about the tower bracket but I figured I'd do it later if I dont like my options on the windshield mounts. i've never owned an open bow before this one so I need to spend some time in it before deciding.
