I have recently bought a 2004 X10. Normally the engine idles at around 600rpm, but occasionally its over revs and sits at 1000 rpm.
Is this a common problem and is their an easy fix??
Make sure the PCV valve is in place, not leaking and the hose isn't leaking. Check for vacuum leaks, look into the throttle body and make sure nothing is keeping the throttle plate from closing completely, like Perfect Pass or another cruse control. If it's none of them, remove the throttle cable (if it has mechanical control from the helm) and see if it goes back to normal. Also, make sure the IAC is working properly and closing on key OFF.
