View Full Version : Aligning an oldy

My 76 S&S needs to be aligned. I am trying it myself. I already spent close to $70 just to get two large end wrenches - one is 1 1/16" and the other is 1 1/2"

I have the pinch bolts loose, and I have moved the engine/trans over as needed. I now need to lower the rear of the motor, and perhaps raise the front a little.

I have loosened the lock nuts, but I can't get the screw jacks to turn. One is not moving at all, the other just shifts back and forth as the rubber bushing allows it to.

My question is: do I just "go for it" on these things, as in, put a big enough 8-point socket and a big enough breaker bar to get them to turn?

Is there yet another lock nut below which needs to be loosened before I really put the strain on turning these?

More detail -

The screw jacks turn in the part of the mount which goes to the engine. The part that should raise and lower as the screw jack is turned.

The part I'm worried about is the rubber bushing. Will I damage it if I break these things loose?
