Has anyone used this mirror? It is 7X20 inches. I am wondering if it stays steady on the windshield/mount as well as how well the wide angle side mirrors work out.

We have one on our club boat - it's mounted directly over the driver's head and the conventional mirror remains in it's place in the middle of the windshield. It was pretty steady (although we're the only boat on that water). I never really got used to the sides but most guys liked them and could even make suggestions on turn form from the driver's seat.

I have on mounted above the drivers side on the windshield. It is the best mirror that I have used. One of my ski buddies bought one recently because he liked mine so much. The side mirrors are useful and it is stable at ski speeds.

Have used them on the club boats, mounted on drivers side they are very stable and the side mirrors are useful. Plan on putting one on my boat this year.

I love mine. When you adjust the outside mirrors it will take a little getting used to; but it's great for observing the skier. You can see the skier bouy to bouy, allowing you to provide more unsolicited "coaching."

Wow, so you guys like it more than the 7x14? I think I’m going to buy a new mirror this spring and I wasn’t even looking at that one. I guess if the side mirrors work well, it would be the nuts.

I thought about getting that one, but two 7x14s provide a pretty nice field of view.

Yep, it sounds like a unanimous vote. I think I'll have to put one on my spring order to Ski DIM. The dash mirror will stay in place and this one will mount on top of the windshield.

Ah, a simple show of hands will do for now:D .

I ended up going with the CIPA comp and bought it last Fall. I've got it mounted above the windshield on the driver's side. I moved the Gladiator mirror (also 7x14) that was on my boat when I got it over to the passenger side and mounted it below the windshield (it moves less in this lowered position). I dig having two mirrors though.
Sorry, I've got to exercise patience in my purchases.

I just pulled a CIPA Extreme off my boat this weekend. The Extreme was a great mirror... I just needed a tower mount for various reasons. So, I've got an Extreme sitting on my workbench if anyone wants a used one.

Actually, what I'd really like is one of the stock 7x14's if anyone is replacing one with the Extreme.

A-OK,
If you want a tower mount AND still use your cipa extreme, MC of Arkansas has got some tower mount arms that they are trying to get rid of on around a 50% discount. They will also get you an adapter from cipa that will allow you to couple your extreme to this OEM arm. This, of course, assumes that you have an OEM tower or one of the same diameter.

Just checking to see if everyone likes their CIPA Extreme mirror (7" x 20") or has another "single" mirror option to view the slalom skier throughout the whole course from the driver's seat. I currently use the OEM 7" x 14" which only adjusts to either see the 1, 3, 5 side or the 2, 4, 6 side.
Ref the CIPA Extreme:
Are the images in the 2 adjustable side mirrors smaller than the image in the center mirror?
Are the images in the 2 adjustable side mirrors large enough to view/critique the skier around the turn buoys?
Any other thoughts from slalom course users of this mirror? tks, mac

The skier isn't in the outdid pane for long. Still, it's an excellent mirror and steady as they come.

Been using mine for a couple years ago and love it. Would never go back to the old style.

I use two Cipas, of the next size down, mounted on top of the windshield about 18 - 22 inches apart. The skier is always in view.

I see a lot of boats with the windshield-header-mounted mirror and I'm wondering if it impacts visibility.
My height, combined with the seat height puts my eyeline RIGHT on the windshield frame, so with a slight slouch, I look through it, but with a slight neck crane, I look over it. I actually prefer looking over it on busy days because I see more and have better visibility.
It seems like these mirrors would be right in my line of vision, either just under the frame, or just over it.
I actually LIKE the stock mirror location, but wish it was convex, like these, with a wider FOV. Any options for that?

We've had both. The newer style has teeth and locks together. So it doesn't move. However, it's also hard to fine tune. My wife is 5'4" and says it's hard to get it just right for her. If I move it one tooth then it's not right or one tooth the other way then it's not right.
I know I use the smaller corner mirrors just to spot check the corners. I knew my wife doesn't use them. She has to tilt it to the right to get the big center mirror just right.
The old traditional mirror was easilier to adjust and fine tune. But it was limited to the center mirror.
Good luck!

george...so, you are saying the CIPA Extreme mirror basically locks in position and every time you change drivers you can't simply reach up and move the mirror to a different position w/o unscrewing something in the back of the mirror and resetting? If this is true, this is a no-go for our use, since we change drivers after each slalom set! mac

You can adjust the cipa extreme on the fly for the most part in my experience.

Hey Doug, it appears the center dimension of this mirror is 6" x 12" (which is an inch less in width than the current OEM mirror) and the outside corners are 6" x 4". If I understood your post correctly, I assume the skier is in the corner mirrors going around the turn buoys. If true, is the image in the corners the same size as the center part of the mirror or disproportional in some way. We instruct each other in the course using our mirror since we normally do not have an observer bright and early in the morning; hence, the reason for all the "new" mirror questions. Bottomline, will we be able see the skier well enough (pre/post turn) around the turn ball to provide worthwhile instruction??? tks, mac

It all happens pretty fast back there. Will you be able to see them? Who knows. You get a glimpse at them for sure. Usually, when I'm driving in the course, I get a peek at maybe one turn. Other than that, I'm trying to keep a good boat path. Bottom line, if you really want to get some good looks at someone's turns, get a trakker and a video camera. You can adjust this mirror to see someone in the turns, but it's fleeting at best. You're watching them in real time after all.

I have this mirror and love it. I can see the skier on both turn balls in the side mirrors while watching the wake crossing in the center. I have it mounted directly over the windshield and as someone commented the main adjustment does have teeth to keep it from shifting, but the back of the mirror is still a ball and socket on mine and allows the mirror to be shifted slightly if needed. The skier does not change size as they move from the center section to the convex sections on the edges. The side sections can be adjusted for the amount of tilt outward that each one has, so all it takes is a couple of passes through the course to figure out where they should be for the turn balls. I have become so comfortable with this mirror that it bugs me when I drive one of my ski buddies boat with a factory mirror. I really miss the outside sections.
Worth ever penny in my opinion.

Must be a function of your mounting system. Mine is fully adjustable by hand, however, mine is tower mounted and probably has a different mounting bracket than yours.

wondering if there is current thoughts on these mirrors... Is it worth the extra $$?
CIPA 7x14 or the three part mirror (CIPA Extreme).
I will be adding tower mirror and i can either order tower bracket to use with existing 7x14 or go with CIPA Extreme or what Samson offers by way of a three lens tower mirror (http://www.onlyinboards.com/AccessoryShop/Products/Tower-Mirrors/Samson-Xtreme-3-Lens-Mirror.aspx)

I'm still using the Cipa Extreme. It's a good mirror. There's a new one out that looks like it will give the best field of view. But it's in the $300 range and too rich for my blood.

The Cipa Extreme is spendy but definitely a nice mirror that allows you to see everything that's going on behind the boat with your skier.

You only thought the CIPA extreme was spendy.
The VR140 Elite from Protomet (http://www.ptmedge.com/store/#ecwid:category=1946202&mode=product&product=8366523) is $399.
