View Full Version : Took a razor blade to my X-Star!!!

For some reason, since I got my boat 3 weeks ago, I never liked the X-star Logo that came on it. So a razor blade and some careful cutting, and I like it MUCH better.

Big balls of the day award to you. It looks much cleaner, I like it a lot!!!

What made you think of doing that to it? If I might ask?

That looks sick!

Did you cut into the gel coat?

Cool. I like the clean look. On the tmcowners front page, all I could read was I took a razor blade to my........

I was hoping somebody didn't do anything drastic!!

That's what I was thinking. That some crazy a$$hole took a razor to the upholstery or something!:D

Yeah, I thought that would get people's attention. Can you imagine if someone did that. I would be PIS*ED:mad:

Anyways, thanks for the compliments:D

What made me do it? I have a disease. I can't drive a stock car or leave anything the way it is. For some reason, I have to "make it my own." And since I got the boat, the decal just never did much for me. Too busy and too much going on with it. So..........rest is history.

Only about 3 inches did I barely scratch into the gel coat, but it will buff out. I've only completed one side. Still have to do the other.

How long did that take you?

swchopper
09-21-2007, 10:52 AM
Not long at all. 1 side probably took 1 hour or so. There are only a few sections that I actually had to "cut". I only cut where the part I didnt like met the part I kept. Other than that, take a heat gun/hair dryer, heat it up just a lil, and peel it all off. If you heat it up too much, the decal will just keep stretching and breaking, making it take too long. If its at room temp, I wouldn't heat it up at all. Mine is in my garage, so relatively warm, and it went faster not heating up the decal.

Nice that your boat is in such like-new condition that there doesn't seem to be any 'shadow' left from the decal.

Looks very nice like that, nice choice.

I have peeled one bad star off my 'ol S&S to find that the color fade is so extreme that I may peel the rest and have a 'custom' look to the boat: the stars will still be very visible in the gel coat. And if I or anyone else ever wants to replace the stars, it will be an easy matter to know just where they belong...

Looks good, nice job! Look at it this way, if you get tired of that, peel the whole decal off and put on the new-style "switch" graphics.
(that's my next move after I get tired of mine)

That's awesome. Thanks for the rendering. It looks great!

That's actually exactly what my wife wanted me to do, and we thought about it seriously, but that was a lil too much curvy cutting for me. But now that I see it, I just may do it. I like it.

Nice look, I have the 01 x-star and thought of the likes myself!, The former owner did a good job of docking and or how ever he managed to scrape up and gouge the decal? I've tried to do so damage control on it, looks good from 15ft but up close nota! You got me thinking again on going for it!!!!

No going back now, unless order of new ones. Well, It kind of "pops" now and has a cleaner look I think, Going to give it some time to get used to it!

wow fintek9, looks really good!!
My x-10 is the same color combo as yours and had the same style graphic. It was way to busy for me!!! I remove both sides.
After seeing yours and swchoppers, I wish I would have though about trimming it up abit before total removal.
Really looks sharp!!!!

Looking at it in the drive, It's growing on me. I'm liking it! Not as plain now! Plus all the gaks and scratches that were in the black area are gone that's what stood out the most!

Man this is a great idea. Does anyone know if I can still order up a new set of decals for a 2005 X9? Mine is an 03 but I like the 05 decals better. I could buy them new and do the cutting off the boat..?
