I was told that they were installed as an option to reduce spray. Our 30th anniversary has them

What is that, a '99? They were installed to improve handling. They also reduced spray but that was secondary. The chine walking was only in limited situations and wasn't as severe as some boats experience but the wake matters more to skiers.

Those are called Hydro-Rails, those and a forth skeg (MasterCraft Positive Pressure Tracking System) make that baby one of the best tracking Prostars on the planet

they are available for 98-00 models in 2001 the hull was changed so the need no longer existed

I think the hydrorails came standard on 99 and 2000 models and were made available for 98s. I had been under the impression that their purpose was to soften the wakes at longer line lengths as opposed to improving tracking. They are not mentioned in the PPTS article like the 4th skeg and foiled rudder.

Not hatin'. Lovin'.

alot of folklore involved in the shampoo discussions, but I had also read that the rails were for handling or keeping the boat flatter in turns to reduce some reported chine lock.. Cannot prove that but had read it somewhere.

Yep, that's what I heard too. I appear to be one of the few who had the opportunity to ski the same boat pre- and post-mods. My Bro in law bought a '98 190, we skied with it for a year or so, then over the winter of '98 or '99 he had the local dealer install the chine & rudder mods. As 15 off skiiers, we did notice a smoother wake after the add. Not much, but slightly noticeable. I barely remember the few times I drove it pre-mod, but IIRC he thinks it helped drivability a bit.

IMHO, the mods made an already awesome boat a small bit better.:D

So some did get to the end users without the foiled rudder. I'm learning.

My 2000 PS195 does not have these, only the notch.

IIRC, that model was an open bow based on the previous 190 hull (95-97), that was also used for several more years as the 19 Skier.

Your 195 is based on the 95--97 190 hull, not the 98--2000 190 hull.
