View Full Version : 94 Protour pictures?

09-17-2007, 01:51 PM
Doug has mentioned a couple of times the spray relief modification on the 94 Protour. Does anyone have any pictures of the spray pockets? I might have my fiberglass guy mod my 94 if I can get some pictures. I never thought I'd get there, but I'm working on 32 off now, so I'm starting to care about spray.

I have pictures of the boat, none of the actual spray mod.

I got my information from Bret, who got to see one up close back in the day. I seem to recall that Bret was a promo driver back then. To make sure I understood him, I whipped up this little picture in MS Paint and sent it to him. He said that I had evisioned the description correctly.

Last summer, I talked to Ted Brown (Ted used to (and may still) do the glass work for TX MC) about this mod and he'd never seen or heard of it before.

There's what appears to be a 94 PT boat on our somewhat nearby ski spot. Next time we're down there, I'll see if I can get a close up picture of the mod.

Anyway, here's my rendition. It was described to me as if someone had taken a rat tail file to the top of the spray relief pocket about an inch forward of where it meets the transom. Essentially, the spray relief pocket is hooked like the transom on the newer EVO hulls. That's not to say you just take a file to the hull. I think what he mean was that it felt like it was carved out.

Here's a close up.

Thanks, Doug.

If you could get a picture, that would be great. I'd really appreciate it.

If anyone on the board has the boat, I'd love to see pictures.

It may not happen for a while, but if I happen to remember when I see it, I'll be sure to post it.

You might try calling this guy.

I emailed the guy asking for a picture of it. Couldn't hurt.

I sure don't see any difference in that boat as far as spray relief pockets go.

Thanks from the pictures. Can't see them, but apparently you could feel them. Maybe Bret will chime in here in a bit so I don't have to keep making with the hearsay. :o

Great looking boat. I was thinking of these exact pictures and wishing I'd saved them back when Farmer Ted posted them a year or two back.

I also would like to know for my 91

I don't see anything from what I remember on my 93

Those pictures look identicle to my 1993....my guess is that the pocket is underneath, or into the bottom of the standard spray rail that is pictured. I imagine that you would need a shot taken while lying on your back looking up at the bottom of the boat.

Nice boat! One of my all time fav's. The spray rail looks the same as our 92, unless there is a very slight hook underneath the rear top edge.

Again, from what I recall of our email exchange, you can feel it when you run your hand along the top of the spray relief pocket.

Basically is this what you are referring to? The hook instead of the upside down "L" ? Does the hook run from front to back of the spray pocket?

From how it was explained to me, it's like this. Maybe it doesn't go to the edge, i.e., more like a tunnel to hook. As I've never seen it first hand, this is all I've got. Hopefully, Bret will see this thread and elaborate as he is the sole source of my info.

09-18-2007, 04:45 PM
okay, so its only the back like 1/8 or 1/16 of the pocket that has a hook on the inside of the top edge?

I wish I still had the email of the description, but I'm recalling that it's 1" forward of where it meets the transom and maybe a 3" long carve out. One of those things you would have to feel rather than see.

as I recall from the Southern Boat Owners Reunion, the 93 Bud Protour boat that was beside me, I felt the spray pocket looking for any differences, and if there is, its very small. I couldnt feel a difference. I actually think mine had more a hook or "lip" from front to back than the Bud boat. strange....

As I understand things, it was only the 94 PT boats.

09-18-2007, 06:12 PM
oh, that would explain that then. LOL

man, I would love to get some detailed info somewhere... im sure the post starter would too...

I appreciate the posts and the pictures. The spray on mine isn't bad unless there's a pretty good headwind. I'd love to see a picture of the spray pockets on the ProTour. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to modify, if I knew what to do.

we can do it for you Kyle. I'll have one of my guys take a grinder to it and polish it up real nice ..:D

Thanks, Rod. That's a real kind offer...

Say, I saw a picture of your new boat - very nice. Did you, by chance, buy that from Mike and Terri Hansen in Sac? They had that same model and color, but they joined up at a lake with a club boat. I knew they sold theirs - did you get it? I skied behind it a few times - it's a great boat!

For reference - this is what the spray pockets look like on my 94 Prostar.
