Hi guys i know this has been talked about a bit, what i'm after is the model of the cd players that are fitted to the newer mc's, i'm particuarly interested in the remote for the system, i have a 87 prostar and as you know there is no where to fit, i thought about fitting under bow behind passenger seat with remote at side of throttle i have seen the remotes they are only about 2 inch in diameter, wondered if these are some kind of stock item from mc ???.
any body ideas on cost also.
yep this is another winter project, hopefully the last till the sun comes out again.
thanks

I have a 2004 Mastercraft with the Clarion Radio. I bought a remote for mine, which I think cost about $90  Well worth not having to dig through the glove box to operate. Installed mine next to the throttle.

Mark,
I have an 87 as well. You can use a jig saw and cut out a spot directly below the mirror for a standard size stereo. Then just buy one that has a wireless remote. You can put some velcro on the back and put it right next to the throttle. That's what I did anyway.

I too didn't like reaching into the glove box all the time. I ordered a new remote http://etronics.resultspage.com/display.php?w=Clarion+Remote&p=Q&ts=dynamic&Store=&image1.x=9&image1.y=4
and extension cable online and saved $50 or so from dealer's cost. I drilled the hole with hole saw for remote and mounted it. Could'nt get the rear bracket on so the dealer had to help loosen the panel, but that was on a 04 X7. I've heard of new buyers buying a new 04 boat then exchanging the radio/cd players out so you might be able to get one on ebay or call some of the big dealers.
Good luck!

Tex, did you install the second remote or GP Audio? I can definitely see the nice to have factor of the transom remote. While I haven't looked at the back of the Clarion radio, does any one know if the 02 model has dual din inputs for the remote?

Steve I believe if you look on Discount Inboard Marine's site they have a "Y" splitter for dual remotes. Don't quote me on that but I thought I saw it.

Here it is $25...http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=M101RYC-RET&variation=&aitem=4&mitem=4
Depends on what type of remote you want. A wired remote with a display that shows CD and track number? Sony makes a three inch and Clarion makes a two inch. A wired remote for just control with no display? There are a bunch, Sony, Clarion, Kenwood, Rockford-Fosgate.... Like a brand of deck that doesn't make a wired remote? Make your own. Take apart the wireless remote, cut out the IR diode, extend it with two wires and mount the diode in front of the deck. Viola, a "wireless" remote that can control a deck inside the glove box.

thats a huge saving from over hear the same units over here are going for $570 plus pp, just hope customs / import duties dont cripple me if i get hit with them.
Decided to opt for under the bow, this unit wont fit under the mirror, just got to get the speakers.
dont know if unit will work on radio over here but only planning on cd's
and with saving who cares.
let you all know how it goes

this was the final sticking point when i bought my boat. they "threw" the remote in if i installed it. i drilled the hole and gage wired it at TM over beers! everyone was happy-the radio had all the imputs on the back. you just need the y splitter.
