We are looking at possibly buying this or a new 08 X2. Do you guys think is this a good price? What would you pay? What would you do? Thanks

You have to ask yourself some serious questions like

Am I sure I want black?
How long am I going to keep it?
Is a Black boat hard to sell if I only plan on keeping it a few years?
Can I live with MC cruise instead of PP?

I think it's worth more like 55k. I have a firend still looking for an '06 X2 but he wont take black for what its worth. he's also not willing to spend more than 50k and he still does not own a boat :twocents:

Do these black boats show alot of water stains/dirt?
were looking to keep the boat for a long time.
I dont know is a black boat hard to sell? I like it but kinda skeptical since Ive never seen an all black.
Oh it doesnt have PP, didnt even notice it ouch.
Person will go down to 54k, but...

well, plan on $1k for PP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the newer boats like '06 already have paddle wheels for the MC cruise?

If so, PP should be easier to install since you don't have to drill a hole in the bottom of your boat!:eek3:

Very good questions! Even from a functional standpoint... that thing sitting out in the Texas sun will definitely toast the heck out of your arse!! Plus, upkeep on that thing is going to be a bich!

i have black on the rear portion of my 07 switch x2. i can tell you it is a pain in the arse to keep the water spots off that section.

i cannot imagine cleaning a all black hull every time.:(

I have an 06 X2 with the black hull, and I really dont find it that bad as far as keeping the spots off. Either way, where we ride, the water looks like coffee so a black or white boat, still looks dirty if not cared for. I am very happy with the black hull and would do it all over again when that time comes.

I know the owner of that boat personally. Zack is a stand up guy. He takes pretty darn good care of his boats. If you talk to him tell him Harvey from DWB said hello. Offer him what you think its worth, he might not take it but make him an offer and see what he does. Oh and if you are worried about the black just invest some money in a pump sprayer like this filled with 50% vinegar 50% water and a couple drops of liquid marine wax.

The black on top will definately burn you if you are not careful in the summer....ours has black on top and the back. It is just as easy to keep clean as the white is, both get waterspots, both need to be wiped down everytime you are out and you will be just fine!

OneandOnly- I see you are in MN-If you want an x2 for a screaming good deal this is the one it is my old 2006. It was taken great care of never had one problem, will not be the maintenance issue the all black one will be and is a really good deal. Not to mention that the guys over there ar Redline are really excellent to deal with. Give Mike a call over there, tell him Matt sent you-The cruise is fine if your not super hardcore(but that may also be a nice negotioated add in)http://www.redlinewatersports.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=03175623X9K13K2007J11I1 5I44JAMQ2838R0&veh=30730&pov=588039

This boat gets compliments everywhere!

On an 06, since it's DBW and already has the paddle wheel, PP probably won't run as much and install should be fairly easy.

duckguy

East is correct would take about 2hrs or so and skiers choice sells the kit for $800

I find that having a colored hull and having a white deck looks stupid this boat would be way way way better with a black deck

Duck, you ordering a VLX? Selling or keeping the MC?

Just to clarify and report-NO!

I went down and test drove/rode a 2007 VLX at Tinus Marine. I was curious to see what the hype was about. This is what I found.

VLX PROS-

Illusion tower is sweet-great visability, NO shaking, pull a pin and its down-very nice not to have to unscew this and fold that.

Great out the the hole power and it would do almost 50, it seems as though the hull is more efficent in the water.

Nice looking, now that the tribal is gone the interior and exterior are real nice.

Heated storage tray above the engine-nice warm vests

Built in cooler with hinged cushion. I hate that the cooler in my x2 is a PITA to get at.

Ballast/Wedge-They empty out the side, not on timers, has twice as much as my x2, including bow ballast. With those full and the wedge down the wake is AMAZING, I mean really really awsome. My X2 has the Fly High System and it puts it just to shame.

Cons-

Didnt like the vinyl as much

no clamping racks-its bugee all the way

rough water ride was not as nice, but did feel solid

All and all if the price were 10k less and the dealerships were equal in distance and quality I would buy the Malibu. 5k I would ahve a real tough choice, the same I need to go MC

To sum it up I felt the Malibu was a great boat that was built well and had a hands down better wake. It will not hold the value the MC. Also for me the dealer is an hour away and the price they gave me on one was pretty bad and not very aggressive. Redline is right down the road and they have always been the greatest from sales to service and I feel that relationship is worth an awful lot.

Pic attached is what I would of ordered.

^Don't be fooled by wake size, it's really rampy and does not have near the upward pop that your X2 has. Different strokes for different folks though. One of the guys in my riding group has one and we have gone back and forth between his and mine and they really are very different.
One thing I hate about the new BU hulls is that the prop cavitates in tight turns... BAD. I've been in a couple of 06 VLXs, a 247, and an 07 VLX Silver and they all did it when driving double ups. Sounds like the prop is slipping out of the water.

I would greatly beg to differ on the Malibu's not holding their value point - in my experience (with 4 of them), they hold their value extremely well.

Also, I always found the handling to be very good.

With that said, I am very, very happy with the wake (in addition to everything else) on my X-15. I go out with my old 06 VLX frequently, and I've grown to prefer the wakeboarding wake on my X-15.

If the hull is less wet when planed off resulting in higher top speed with similar HP, a tradeoff might be the cavitation in turns. I've not driven a MC wakeboat (only some other darkside brand), but on my 197 it does seem like we eat up a lot of 300+hp, without a ton of top end. That being said, I am still 100% sold on my setup !

Duck,

I think Malibu touts the VLX as their flagship. Much bigger than the X2. A fair comparison might be the Xstar or better yet, the X15, X15 is almost the same exact size.

DJ,

VLX I was in had problems cavitating as well? Especially loaded down. Seemed to be worse with the wedge down, too......

I was not really trying to do a fair comparo I was just checking out the Malibu scene
