i tried searching but the seach says oil and rtp are to short to search. So basically all i got was filter and 500+ results. What oil filter and should the replacement be on a 2007 RTP prostar 197? Also what does everyone recommend for oil? Sorry for asking such a newb question but I couldn't find it in the search.

PS is it bad if the boat has 100+ hours on this oil change:eek3: :D

Yes, very bad.........what was the hull id# again?

20w50 is what we use for oil......815101001 I think is the P/N for the oil filter from MC. That is just off the top of my head so the p/n may be wrong.

PZ-3 Pennzoil filter..........can't you look to see which filter is on the boat now?

The Pennzoil filter is made by Fram, which has to be the lowest rated oil filter in existence. A better choice would be a Wix 51069 or a NAPA Gold 1069 (same filter) Purolator and AC also have good filters, but I don't know the numbers.

Oil - any 15W40 that meets the specs set forth in your owner's manual will be fine. Usually easiest to find Pennzoil Marine or Pennzoil Diesel (same oil), or Shell Rotella T. Walmart often carries the Pennzoil, NAPA usually carries the Rotella T.

Bigmac,

I'm very curious to know where I can find the oil filter ratings you mentioned. Can you point me to them?

Thanks.

Interesting that a dealer is using a non approved oil. Indmar and MC reccomend the 15w 40. As bigmac said use a Napa Gold 1069 or Wix equivalent and either the Rotella T or Penzoil Marine.

I'm sure a lot of the dealers use what they can get the cheapest in 55 gallon bulk from the local jobber. Me, I have a lot of confidence in the quality of the CI/SL 15w40 diesel oils and that's the reason I don't let the dealer change my oil or my oil filter.

It's not non approved, its just better. Interesting that a dealer is using a non approved oil. Indmar and MC reccomend the 15w 40. As bigmac said use a Napa Gold 1069 or Wix equivalent and either the Rotella T or Penzoil Marine.

It's not non approved, its just better.Whoa! That's great news. You should let Indmar know that you've found a better oil than what they recommend to their customers.

FrankSchwab,

Thanks for the oil filter reference. It is a very interesting read.

I tried to start a thread to track parts x-refs for consumables....the crosses for the PZ3 are here.

Perhaps there is an area we could accumulate these by model as a general lookup area as opposed to in a thread.

That's even more interesting. I am sure you have done substantially more research than Indmar. Glad you are not changing my oil. I will stick to the viscosity and ratings reccomended by Indmar.

Actually I have a feeling this is what is "better" about it I'm sure a lot of the dealers use what they can get the cheapest in 55 gallon bulk from the local jobber.

Just ordered my oil filter from SKIDIM for my 99 Maristar 230vrs, Indmar 5.7 Vortec. Came in today . It is a PCM part no. R077002. At $10.52 plus freight I'm sure I got "took" More importantly at this point any one know about the quality if this filter and who makes it?
Also ordered impeller for above. Received part no. RP061018 (with gasket) $29.99. Price seems ok but it is PCM also. See any problems here here?

I have no idea on who makes that oil filter. Next time drive down Hwy 190 to the NAPA in Mandeville and ask for a NAPA Gold 1069. They are great filters and will set you back $6. While you are there pick up some of the Rotella T 15w 40 for your oil change.

As for the impeller. That is the right one and a descent price. I have used the exact one from them multiple times in my boat. SkiDIM is good people. I wouldn't worry about being 'taken' on the oil filter. Next time just source it local.
