I'm starting to think about what to buy for family Christmas gifts this year and I'm wondering about the price range for jump skis. My son learned to do ride overs and helis this year. He really likes it and would like to get into jumping a lot more. So far he's always used skis that belong to the team, but I know he wants his own pair.

I'm thinking safe, good quality, something that works well and doesn't frustrate him, but it doesn't have to be the absolute Cadillac of skis either.

I wouldn't buy the skis without his involvement (I'd probably give an IOU and price range and then let him shop), but I don't want to promise to buy something without knowing what price category I'm getting myself into.

Sue,

Keep a look out. He needs a pair of 72's. Not much has changed in the tech in those in the past 10-15 years. You just have to find something in decent shape. You should be able to find something in the $350 to $600 range. You will find all types and conditions in that range. I will keep my ear to the ground. Does he need binders?

Will he be able to jump on his own? If not there is no point in dropping that kind of dough on some jumpers. If he only jumps with the team use team skis. It will take some luck and time to find some used 72s in the $350-600 range. By the time a pair surfaces, it might be Christmas in July???
