View Full Version : Your Engine Hours- Engine life

I have never seen or read how many hours can be expected from inboard ski boat engines. I'm curious to see what other's 'high hour' experience is. Also, if you have had pre-mature engine failure, that would be interesting to note as well.

I submit this thread for:

1) General comment on this subject.

2) Post your (higher) engine hour experience along with relevant info, such as:

- Hours:
(stock is assumed unless you mention 'mods' done)

- Boat Year & Model:

- Engine make, CID, model & HP:

- How does it run?
(Assume, 'Great, no problems', unless otherwise noted)

- (Tranny Ratio Assumed 1:1 unless stated otherwise)

(Optional)
Primary Use: ≈ 'x' % slalom (3000- 3,600 rpm), 'x' % wakeboard/other (1,700 - 2,200 rpm)

That one was my demo boat at the store. That was funny to see customers guessing on before trying it... And my final line was always: It is nice to try a boat with that many hours, have you been able to do the same at any other place!
PS 190 -01
LTR ENGINE p/slot with 1850 hres
The first 1500 were done at COBLE, and then I had 350 in 2 years. The main reason why it stay like the picture: 100% slalom boat!!! And I sold it in May for 20K ($can) with the trailer and the new owner added up another hundred.

alp,

Is small crack in rear of head on left side behind last spark plug (like mine). I have the same slow drip, that I just noticed. Has the crack/drip been present for several seasons or hundreds of hours? I am trying to see if others with this crack have been able to run without 'other' problems developing.

At 285 HP, I assume you have a 351 H.O. ,w/GT40 (not GT40p) heads.
If so, maybe the E7(240hp), GT40 & GT40p heads are all the same casting (except for the plug angle).

davekro,

Yes, its the original 285 w/ slot - GT heads. Crack is on the passenger side, rear of head from the edge of the freeze plug to about an inch from the first spark plug. Not sure how long it was there. I discovered it about 20 hours ago and have not had any problems other than a very slow drip.

Alp,

I probably now have about 20 hours since I first noticed the crack in my head (same place as yours), back in early July. Hopefully we ski on for many seasons without problems! :o)
