I don't know anything about the benefits of a wake plate for that particular boat, but installing one appears to be a very do-able project.

There have been at least a few threads here on user-installed wake plates on MasterCrafts, using either Bennet system or MasterCraft (Lenco) OEM plate installed aftermarket. The consensus is pretty clearly that they help a variety of wake and/or handling issues.

Look here (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=11290&highlight=wake+plate)or here (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=4812&highlight=wake+plate), or do a search on "wake plate".

I think the Bennett system is a little cheaper.
