View Full Version : Speeding up an X2

Sorry if my english i'snt completely ok but i'm from Belgium ;)
After having had an Maristar 225VRS for 10 years and an X-10 for two i've bought à 2007 X-2 with MCX 350Hp engine. After using it for about 100 hours now i'm very happy with it except the top speed. It goes till about 35 Mph where my X-10 with the same engine go to about 45 Mph.
Does anybody have any idea what i can do to speed it up ? I'm thinking of changing the prop but don't know to whitch type and my dealer says this will change nothing !?
Also i thought off changing to a new 2008 model with the LY6 400HP engine. does anybody has some experience with this combination.

New 2007 Prop has more pitch
Better whole shot, but less top end, or so I am told
Has many other advantages that have be disscused on this site. Thats why Mastercraft switched props in 07. Do a search, I know it has been brought up before

LY6 is supposed to be a great engine and it will spin more RPM's than the MCX so I was told. You would probally get more top end. Hey its only money.

Someone with a X2 will chime in, but 35 seems low with any engine. With the new prop being a 14.25x14.5 (i think), it sould be in the low to mid forties in speed. I know it is a different boat, but my x-1 with that prop and the 310 horsepower motor will get into the low forties in speed.
Have you checked your speed with a GPS? What are your RPMs making it to?

Agreed, 35 is too slow even with the new prop. LY6 would give you more top end, but even so the MCX should be enough for the average user. Unless you are really weighting the boat down for boarding or need the top end + holeshot of the LY6 for some reason. Figure out the problem with your current boat first before buying a new one.

my 07 X2 does ~41mph...i can't remeber at what rpm

Another thing that hasn't been asked is what altitude are you at? Higher altitude = lower top speed.

my 07 X2 with the 14.25x14.5 will do 44mph at 5200 rpm. with the MCX motor on GPS.
