I don’t know if any of you have noticed but MasterCraft has been sponsoring the THQ SuperCross this season. They have been displaying boats (with the local dealer) and banners at each event as well as running the Parks double half-cab commercial during the event.

I went and saw all this first hand last weekend in Atlanta and it was awesome! 62,350 people in attendance and prime time replay on ESPN2. You could see the boat and banners on every lap. What a great marketing tool to reach a new audience.

If you have never been to one of these events I highly recommend you go...you will enjoy the great racing and make sure to visit the pits to check out the MasterCraft display.

BTW, Ricky Carmichael killed it in Atlanta...not sure Chad Reed will recover. It is great to see Jeremy back on a Honda he and LaRocco are doing it for us "old" guys :).

I saw one of the races on TV last week. I was a X-Star sitting track side. I was hoping nobody would run into it.
It seems natural, that the supercross crowd would be into wakeboarding.
Good marketing on MasterCrafts part.

Start of thread Hijack...
On a somewhat related note, when watching the prerace part of the Daytona 500 last week, I saw what looked like a slalom cource in the lake by the back strech. I had read were the were making a number of upgrades to the track, which included the lake. Anybody know anything about this? I would love to take in a few set on that lake during my next daytona beach vacation.

O.K., catch me up on who's riding what. I know that Ricky Carmichael defected from Team Honda, but I'm not sure what he's riding now? By "Jeremy", do you mean Jeremy McGrath? If so, I thought he had retired?

I grew up as a major dirt bike fan. I used to subscribe to Motocross Action magazine and read every issue cover to cover. I even raced my CR125R Honda a couple of times. This was back in the days of Bob Hannah, Roger DeCoster, Johnny O'Mara, Marty Smith, etc. (late 70's, early 80's). I haven't kept up with it as much as I used to, but I try to watch any time it's on TV.

I am not sure who is riing what as I have not been following closly, but Jeremey McGrath is back at it. DeCoster is now manager of the Suzuki Team.
I raced a bit back in the 70's also, was a blast, but I like skiing better.
Best race I ever was at was the US 125 Grand Prix at Mid Ohio. Marty Smith and Bob Hannah handlebar to handlebar the entire race. Marty Smith won both motos and I got into the pits and had him sign my ticket stub after the race.

Ricky is at Suzuki
Chad Reed (Yamaha) is the defending champ as Ricky was having knee surgery last season.
Kevin Windham is with Honda riding a CRF450 (and their best hope for wins at this point)
Jeremy McGrath is back and with Honda once again

The last two races have been the best I have seen in years!

I used to go to Mid-Ohio every year to watch the Trans-AMA race. Hurricane Hannah, Broc Glover and the fastest kid I have ever seen Danny "Magoo" Chandler (now in a wheel chair) were my heros. Those were the days...when men were men...and sheep were nervous :eek3:

What happened to Magoo? I remember when David Bailey was temporarily paralyzed in an accident, but I hadn't heard anything about Magoo.

At the Paris Supercross, Chandler suffered a crash in a heat race that broke his neck and left him paralyzed.

Powerslot, thanks for the link. I scanned through it and saw a bunch of names that I grew up reading about. It sure brought back a lot of memories.

While reading the bio on Bob Hannah, I came across this:

Water sports were the recreation that Hannah participated in to relax. A water skiing accident in the Colorado River at the end of 1979 nearly cost Hannah his career. His right leg was broken in 12 places when he hit a submerged rock and was catapulted onto the riverbank. Doctors initially told Hannah he would never be able to race again. He was forced to sit out the entire 1980 season while recuperating.

A great motocross racer and a water skier too. My kind of guy.

The Indianapolis race was a ton of fun! I volunteer for track cleanup and get my kids and myself into the pits. This is handled through some racers that have ties to our school and the THQ series. I hang out on the track while the kids rub elbows with the likes of Chad Reed, Ricky Carmichael, Kevin Windham and my favorites Rick Johnson, Brock Glover and Roger Decoster. We supposedly did such a great job that we have been covered for the St. Louis race this Saturday. We all get special shirts and hats. They let me where a Mastercraft hat instead of the THQ hat. I have a blast working with these guys and the kids get an amazing view of the world of Supercross. They do put us to work, usually until 1:30 am. It is amazing how fast the place is leveled and loaded on to the trucks. I still ride often, if you get the opportunity, check these guys out! They always run the Mastercraft Commercial and usually have a couple of MC celebs on site. :steering:

I think I saw an X-Star in the infield of the race I saw yesterday on ESPN(2 - i think). But, it was just a glimpse. Didn't see any banners.

What I like to see is how antique these "state of the art" bikes are now. Amazing what they did on those...

Remember when Motocross bikes had 2 shocks?

Yeah, and the original "monoshocks" look like clunkers now..

My son has a 02 kawasaki 250.. We had to change out the bearings and bushings in the rear shock linkage.. Some engineer spent alot of time designing it.....

It was there! They had fewer banners than in Indy and I do not remember seeing the Mastercraft add during any of the brakes. The local dealer had three nice boats on display in the pits and one on the track. It was an X-Star. Decent race but pretty much the same. Carmichael is awesome. Kids got a nice pic with him and a few others.
