Hi All,

I've been skiing a demo System 8 with the Venom boots on it (I'm definately going to buy it) for the last month or so- they're comfortable, after a few adjustments, but I'm wondering if I should try the Animals out before I buy. Any opinions on the HO boot choices that would be helpful to me? I'm skiing open water, fairly aggressive, hope to get a course next year.

Thanks!

Welcome, although I may be late considering you have 18 posts. :)

I ride a monza with approaches. Approaches do NOT release. They lean your ankles slightly forward and can hold your feet as still as you want them....down to the point of blood circulation problems:D . They are not alot of fun to remove feet from while in water. I like mine very much. I hear they are heavier than the animals. There is alot of good experience in HO bindings in this place. Let the chiming begin...

I had a pair of Obrien Bios on my system 8 up until last month when I got a chance to upgrade to hardshell (Fogman). The Bios are similar to the Approaches and they hold your feet very well. Maybe too much to to point they don't realy release when you fall.
Personnally, I think the Venon might be safer...

By the way my Bios are for sale,so if you are looking for a good deal on a perfect condition pair of Bios (size 10-12) send me a PM . They do fit the System 8 perfectly.

I'll let someone else comment on the Animal's as I have the Venom's. The one thing I do remember about the Animal's is that they are foot specific meaning if you ski right foot forward you need to make sure your front boot is for a right foot, back for a left foot, etc.

I'm looking forward to the feedback you get on the Animal's as I've been thinking about an upgrade myself.

Yes Ohiox14 is right. You need to make sure you get the specific foot forward. I just went from venom to animal and I love it. It will let you out if you have a hard crash. I would go with the animal if you can.

I'm demo'ing it with the Venoms and haven't bought it yet. Baring hearing anything really negative about the Animals here, I believe I'll buy it with them (Animals).

I typically dont mind what type of boots they wear. As long as they are sexy, I dont care. some of my ladies wear tall leather boots, some wear heels, some wear snake skin boots, some wear them pink fluffy boots, they all fine to me! I usually wear Animal boots, because the ladies like it.

Love the Animals, superfeet inserts comfy. Never heard a bad word from anyone about these bindings.

I have been skiing with animals in the course, 22-28 off 34mph and find them to be a decent binding. They will release in a hard crash, but it has to be really hard. Usually your ankles let you know they bent more than usual. The only issue I have had is that the front wraps have been replaced usually once per summer as they tear. I have been given them for free each year for the last 4 summers. They can be a bit time consuming to change however.

Good luck.

Make sure to check the screws that hold the boot to the plate as they come loose from time to time and are not visible as they are only accessed by taking the whole plate and boat off of the ski.
