So  how the heck do you back up these straight inboards????????

Answer: Very carefully. In general, you have to use the rightward reverse pull to your advantage. Don't use too much power in reverse. Then goose it forward with a little right rudder to bring the nose back to center. After a while, you get so used to it, you'll wonder what you did without it.

Is that a 209? Hard to tell. Nice boat!

:wavey: Thanks for the tip! I feel like such an idiot trying to dock this thing.......but I am slowly getting the hang of it. And yes ......it's a Prostar 209 :woohoo:

Great looking boat. I love the yellow...that will be my first choice on my next inboard. Backing up takes a bit of practice, but I find it easier to handle then an I/O when you get the hang of it. Just power on and off with the rotation of the prop you will swing around like Doug said. Remember to keep coming in and out of gear when in shallow water or areas near the ramp that may have trees...saves prop dings. Great pick for a first boat!!!

Mag Red, nice looking boat. I have not seen the ski mirror on the driver side except for boats that have a tower. How do you like it in that location? Did you tell the dealer to mount it there? How is it for observing skiers? Mine is on the observer seat side on top of the window and the mirror is constantly being bumped by the observer or when you go to the bow. Hmmmmmmmm, could be next weekends project.

Jimmer2880,

I really like the looks of your dock (and boat too of course). I'm thinking of building a covered lift similar to yours. Do you have any specs or detailed pictures of it? I am particularly interested in the ability to trailer it out. Any information on how you did it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mag Red, I think that either a White or Black truck would look great with your boat (you could add some yellow striping if you really wanted a good match). Heck, with your boat behind it practically any truck would look good.

I've always mounted my mirror on the driver's side of the windshield frame. It still gets bumped occassionally. I'm convinced that no matter where I mount it someone would find a way to bump it. :(

I got this from the local Ski Team. It is a 2001 19Skier with the 310HP Preditor engine. They use them for 2 seasons then upgrade. I got a heck of a deal on this boat and love it! The team has had 12 skiers up behind it (dock start). I have pulled up 6 adults in a deepwater start with no problem and have had up 3 footers at 40 mph with throttle to spare. I think I could get a couple more back there! 5 footers would make a nice picture!

My new wife and I got this MC as a wedding present from a group of family and friends, as an upgrade from our Moomba. Best wedding present I have ever heard of. Less than three months of marriage and we already have 37 of our own hours on the MC. Including two friend’s bachelor parties. My brother towed it from FL to VT for the wedding presentation.

Chris,

I custom built the dock and the trailer. If you're still intersted, let me know & we can start swapping emails. I have detailed pic's and some autocad files of the dock being built that I'm sure most people on this forum isn't interested in.

As far as the trailer goes - I can take pic's of that also. You'll need either a metal fab shop of our own, or a friend who does.

Hopefully soon, I'll have all the bugs worked out of the trailer & will be able to use my suburban to pull the dock out (I'm having tongue weight issues... ) :uglyhamme Currently, I'm using a 1971 (or is it a 69?) Chevy C50 that we use to pull Mobile homes out of the flood plane.

i live in saskatchewan. have to put #'s on boat yet. this year we had the worst summer in probably 20 years but still happened to log 40 hours on it. i see you have maristar as well. gotta love the room and sundeck a v-drive offers. i could use a little more power. only have 275hp tbi. i propped down to a 13.5X16 and works good until weight-ballast+people gets over that 2600lb mark and then a little slow planing. thes boats seem to like weight in nose. i have two 350's in rear + 100 worth lead. 540 launch pad lounge in open bow. which makes it into playpen when full. 100lb waterbed tube in nose under cushions and another 100 in locker(tiny ski locker back in 95) i use 1100gph rule plumbed through middle drain hole to a manifold and for draining have simer 600gph self priming. works great. takes about 10 min to fill and about 20 to drain. i did not get a chance to read your profile but you in canada as well? feel free to e-mail me at abnovotny@shaw.ca

Farmer Ted,

What year is that boat that you have? It looks awesome. It is a Prostar 190 right, how many HP does it have?

Is that model a rare find, or are they pretty easy to get ahold of? I like the look of it, and may just have to put a want ad up in the marketplace.

Do the Stars and Stripes editions cost more than the standard boats?

Farmer Ted
09-09-2004, 08:15 AM
ERK,

It's a '98 190 30th Aniversarry Edition. There was one on Ebay awhile back that sold for 17K no reserve (don't think the guy had a very good lawyer) check Boattrader they show up once in awhile.
As far as horsepower, the boat has an LT-1 that's rated at 350Hp.
Very happy with it.

Did you get my PM? This picture was taken in March before the repair.

It's amazing how you start to notice things like that once you've seen one. When I first bought my Grand Wagoneer, I instantly started to notice them all over the place. They were probably always there, but I never noticed them until I started looking at them.

Definitely a fine-lookin' boat!

Farmer Ted and bcampbe7,
Jim's out working on his truck, you'll have to settle for me! We're in Des Moines (Eastside - Sheridan Park), bought the boat from Panorama, won't elaborate, but right now it's in Omaha getting warranty work done ('nuff said??) Jim's pretty neutral for the weekend and we all know who I'm pulling for :) .....We've been staying in the Aunt's Creek area the last few years, at King's Cove Resort (just off mile marker 10) for the last couple, love the area and the lake, far cry from Rathbun where we usually boat. I suppose being from Iowa City area, you're siding with that other team..... Patty

Mrs JMT,

Welcome aboard! Do you guys ski on the river or Saylorville?
My dad keeps a pontoon boat out at Big Creek and there have been a few times I'd pay the ticket to put the beast in and GET-R-DONE!!

The lake I ski on down here in Louisiana is smaller than Big Creek but there is so much water down here compared to heaven, I mean Iowa.

Are ya'll from the big D? I grew up on the South side near the airport and man do I miss Anderson Ericson and corn fed beef.

You ever make it down to Shreveport give me a yell and Brad and I can hook you up with a pull! Same for you bcampbe7!

Farmer Ted,
Thanks for the welcome! We usually drive down to Rathbun, Saylorville is WAY too crowded and there's a lot of debris in Red Rock. Next time you come home, let us know and we'll take you down (after you've had some A/E, of course!)

Farmer Ted:

Sorry, all salt water. After every outing, I've got to remove the water intake hose and flush the engine well. I've been told that the risers normally have to be replaced about every other year -- depending on usage. I don't know what it's like for all you fresh water boaters. Must be nice. Also, I keep the boat on a trailer. We don't leave it in the water overnight at anytime.

As for Hickam. Nice location, but . . . salt water all around.

I Put the 6 x 9's in a couple of years ago. I also made custom 6 x 9 boxes to go in the front of the side pods. The monster tower was one of my new additions for '04. I also had a custom cover made because of the tower. My winter project is to redo the interior.

Lake Tippy, buy one of those little 12V inflator pumps. Blowing those things up by mouth will give you a monster headache. When I am forced to carry a tube along, I always deflate it and stow it under the seat until someone wants to ride it. Then I plug in the inflator and inflate the tube; usually takes less than 5 minutes. Afterwards, I use it to deflate the tube so it's not sitting around in the way.

The lift is a SunStream Lift. The pontoons basically rotate outwards and move beside the lift, lowering the boat into the water. The lift is new also. I'm not totally convinced on the lift yet - there are a lot of moving pieces that all have to work together to get the boat up and down. Unfortunately my parameters are pretty complicated: needs to be floating due to varying water levels, needs to be battery powered because shore power is not practically accessible. I'm still looking around for other types of lifts that meet those parameters...

André
10-02-2004, 11:35 AM
I would like to fit some kind of canopy that could move up and down when i rise or lower the boat on my lift...

Laurel_Lake_Skier
10-03-2004, 01:02 PM
The canopy stays where it is. If I lift the boat all the way up, it tucks up so that only a small portion of the red stripe is visable. Unless the weather is supposed to get nasty, I don't bother putting the cover on.....the canopy provides great protection from sun and light rain. Going all the way up on the "ShoreStation Fitness Center" is quite a workout and your idea of a canopy that moves might save on some cranking but you would not be able to tuck the boat as tightly under the canopy.

Sweetness! Nothing like the feeling when you are doing step-offs and they drop the hammer on that outboard!

I thought I had posted to this thread but apparently not.

Used for the bulk of the summer at a "Y" Camp in Alabama, returned to the dealer in August, got a great discounted deal on a new boat and trailer. It was broken in with 108 hours when I bought it. We absolutely love it.

Does the car have a towing package? Looks like it might bottom out on a steep launch ramp. :D

This is my first MasterCraft. I was at the Plant the other day for a tour. I have a PS190 being built with the LQ9 engine, chrome exhaust extensions, chrome bow trim cap, stainless steel rub rail, CD radio, 4 pull up cleats, teak swim platform with transom protector, fire extinguisher, depth finder, and supposed to come with a stainless steel prop with the LQ9 engine.

The local Malibu Dealer (I know, I know) hosts an annual fund raiser on New Years Day. I will post some pictures of those hardy souls, doing what they love, even in winter...

Thanks! It had a little sun fade starting, but Action Watersports (dealer in MI) polished it up and redecaled it for me. A little teak oil (to appease some on this board) and she now looks like new.

It's actually pretty flat with big stern rollers.
I've been meaning to attempt a pull behind them for years, I think we'll have to do it this spring and take some pics.
