I am going about 16. Was doing 15 and increased, the wake is a bit smaller at 16 but I am getting a lot more speed toward the wake and more air now as well.

22 mph for me, it is going to be different depending on the rider and their preference

19 to 21 for me.. It really depends on the chop (soupiness) of the water.. Fast on glass.. slow on soup....

16 Would be slow for me, when you cut out far in the flats I sink at that speed. Trying 19.5 now, seems to be a good speed for me

It also varies depending on the boat. one boat may put out a great wake at 20 while another is completely washed out at that speed.
ballast weight, rider experience, weight and preference are all factors also.
we ride from 20 to 26 mph depending on rider and ballast load

I pull 2 of my buddies that are about 6' 5" and around 235. they definitely require some extra speed.

although no matter what, they look goofy wakeboarding. big guys just look funny on a board

20 for me unless I am doing surface moves where I slow down to 17-18, every MPH helps when you know you are going to face plant!

For me (back in the day) it was 19mph behind a Prostar190. I think everybody is right when they say it depends on the rider, weight of person and boat.

21.7mph @ 75'. Full ballast front and middle, rear ballast wherever it needs to be depending on people and gear.

What kind of boat are you riding behind? 16 is SLOW, you should add more weight to the boat to make the wake bigger. Then, with more weight you should be able to increase your speed.

I ride between 20 and 22. Usually behind Doug G's X-30 its inbetween 20 and 21 and on my X-1 cruise is set for 22mph. I perfer the higher speed. I dont know why. But I do wear a helmet!!

Speed... Rope length... Ballast... Skill... Its tuff to get it all right. I'm running at 22mph, 75Ft off, with full ballast and additional 1850lbs, in a SICK 07 X-STAR!!! Works for me.

Lenny,

I ride the 143 3DS. I have looked at the 147 era, but there is not much difference in the surface area between the two. Actually the 143 3ds has 840 square inches and the 147 era has 843 square inches. The tip/tail of the 3ds is over 2 inches wider, which makes it a wash.

Looks like you need alot more ballast, then increase speed. You should be going at least 20 IMHO. What kind of boat is that?

Welcome to the board!

Ahhhh Shucks... You may be right:o

Oh darn!! I gotta say it.. I cleared the wake four times in a row at 20mph 4 1/2 to 5 ft height every time last night;) Ain't much for some, but I'll take it all day long..

I have to admit.. I rang my bell hard on two attempts Sunday morning.. Still landed it twice (had to get back up dust off and try again);) :D

I agree on the board size, I'm 6'4" and weigh 195lbs, I was riding a 138 and had speed around 22mph, I went to a LF team 143 and now am riding at 19-20.

We ride between 23 to 25 mph. I'm about 185, my brother is 165, we both like the same speed. Faceplanting at 25 is no fun

1boarder, I was just wondering what ur board size was. 143 is very similar to what I ride. I have a Ronix Vault 144 and in my opinion think that maybe its a little big for me but i could be wrong. Im 6'0 or 6'1" 210lbs. Its the right size for me its just I still havent gotten fully used to that much board under my feet, gotta cut in harder!!!

But yeah if theres no diffeence btwn the 143 and the 147 then theres no reason to change! The Vault has 827 square inches of surface area
