I have a 01 x-10 with a Clarion XMD1 radio. The unit has 2 rca inputs that are not being used behind the radio. Is this where I can plug in a XM radio receiver unit. Does anyone know if this radio will work with XM radio? Any information is appreciated as I am trying to figure out what I need to buy to get satellite radio on this boat.

Thanks. :)

From what I have found here ==> ==> Clarion XMD1 <== (http://www.epinions.com/Clarion_XMD1_RET_AM__FM_Marine_CD_Player__w__CD_Ch anger_Controller___XMD1_RET/display_~full_specs) it is not XM compatible. I see only CD, AM, and FM specs. You will need a head unit that is "XM" compatible or an XM / FM modulator unit. For that I like the Roady unit (visit Worst Buy or Jerk-it City stores) for portability. I also have a hardwired receiver unit in the truck. IMHO, I would not sweat a "marine" unit. An auto head unit will do just fine.

XM rocks...

Thanks Sporty. If my unit is not XM compatable then I guess that I either have to get a new unit or use the FM modulation or the tape deck adaptor. I really do not like the tape deck connections. Does the FM modulation work for anyone. My experience with this is that it will work in some areas and not in others.

Thanks.

Rob, I posted this on another forum yesterday, and it might be of interest. Sparky's reply might also be right up your alley if you're interested in a MyFi. Love mine!

If you have the MyFi (or Skyfi 2~Roady 2) and are having interference problems w/ the internal FM modulator check this thread out, and follow the link to the external FM mod. They were raving about it. Bought one yesterday at CircCity, and am putting it my truck next week. Hope it sounds as good as the cass adapter on my last truck

Just go to Radio Shack and get the Monster cable that has an earphone plug on one end and two RCA's on the other and just hardwire it into the Aux plugs on the back of the head unit. Best sound quality possible.

I just put a Roady 2 in my wifes new C320 and use a switchable modulator, 88 and 107 but then you have .1,.3,.5,.7, and .9 to switch each band too, no problems to date or static. I bought the antenna's and kits for the Explorer and the boat.

Thanks. Both posts sound like great options for me. I had rather not replace the head unit. I will give it a shot.

Thanks.

Rob, just as these fine folks here have said, you'll be pleased with the Roady and the modulation.

I'll be trying Mitch's suggestion. It can't be a bad idea... wiring over modulation.

Enjoy XM... I'll be with XM until 2007 then Sirius is (contractually) taking NASCAR broadcasts. I'll be jumping to Sirius, unless they merge for satellite survival.

The XMD1 does not have an RCA input. The RCA connectors are outputs.
The only Aux input on the XMD1 is the 13 pin DIN connector used by the CD Changer. You can hack the 13 pin DIN connector to provide an Aux input for an I-Pod, MP3 player etc..but you lose the CD Changer.

Dan - sounds like you are familar witht the XMD1. I am guessing that my only way to hook XM radio to this is with the FM modulator. Is there an adaptor or anything that I can but to "hack" the 13 pin connection for the cd changer. I do not have a CD changer - only the single disc player that is built in so this would be fine.

Thanks.

I have the Xm MyFi & find the FM modulator works pretty well here in Spokane where there is not many stations at 88.1 (or whatever). But I'm a bit disappointed with the type of programming that comes over the satellite. Lots of bands you've never heard of. And lots of bands you ALWAYS hear on regular radio don't show up on XM. I found about 12 stations that I like. There are plenty of times I go thru all 12 without hearing sh!t. Then I go thru the radio & if the DJs shut their mouths, then thats where I end up staying for a while. I hear that Sirius programming is a bit different.

Thanks.Rob,

I'm also currently in the XM Radio market for my boat as well, and have been searching activitly and comparing brands (XM and Sirus) since Christmas 2004.

Best 2 resources I've found thus far, hope this helps as well.

Rob, Not sure which one is better. XM=baseball, so that's why I chose them. If you like Stern, (I don;t), go w/ Sirrus. Sirrus also has football, but the pats are always clear on FM, not the case w/ AM and redsox. XM just announced a $$ increase for 4/1. They're now the same, but they threw in PC access, which is very cool and Opie and Anthony. You'll have tons of music either way, and ESPN radio rocks!

I just joined XM. Opie & Anthony cost $1.99 extra & XM Online is still not working from any PC I've tried it on. We have multiple calls & emails in to support & have not yet talked to any XM support people about it. I'll be happy about paying more for the services I'm not getting too.

I hear that Johnnie Van Zandt is setting up a new station on Sirrus called Outlaw Country. Sounds like lots of Hank Jr, Kid Rock, Lynrd Skynrd, Johnny Cash & the like.

Bill, I'll try the XM Online when the fee increase comes. I assume it's the same (or similar) as the 3-day free trial version I used before I signed up? Good luck. BTW. I can usually get someone on the phone is a couple of minutes when I've called.

I just got XM radio this Sunday. I got the Roady 2 and so far I love it. had to sit in traffic for a hour today because of snow, and commerical freeeeeeeeeeee music made it enjoyable. I also plan on setting up the boat for the Roady also. The boat was my main reason for looking at sat radio. for me the price of XM was the winner. They both offer basicly the same music selection and that was all I really wanted.

The in line FM modulator works great, no static to speak of, and is a breeze to install on the clarion. The power cable it uses snaps right in line with the power going to the Clarion unit, and the best part is, it powers the XM uint as well so you don't have the cigarrette lighter adaptor across your dash.
