I asked this question on the ski blog with little response. I'm looking at the Connely Draft hinged bindings. Has anyone used them yet or know about them? I don't want to talk to sales people like myself, real life user's are the one's that no. I'm 46... years young and get up on two
( no laughing ) and drop so I need a binding that I can get the rear foot in.
Or is it possible to use the velcro style plate bindings and get your rear foot in after getting up?
Is there other sites that have this information?

I don't want to try and change your mind, but have you tried the new widebody slaloms? You may not need to kick off a ski anymore.

I know nothing about the Hinged bindings but I do have Hardshell bindings on my Monza. You won't be able to put your back foot in the binding after you get up and drop a ski. It's not as simple as setting your foot down on some velcro. You have to align the plates and push down like heck to get the two pieces to mate.

If you are dropping a ski stay away from the drafts (or HO approach). You would need to use a rear toe piece and neither of those bindings will release in a fall, so running a non-releasable front binding and an easily releasable back binding is a prescription for crutches! Go with a more traditional design like a Wileys.

When you drop a ski you want to use a toe plate. as Jrandol getting bindings on are hide enough when your on the plate form def not easy when your holding onto a rope going 30 trying to look down to get your back foot in

Thanks for the info... Just can't get myself to go to a wide body ski after 35 years of skiing inlcuding coarses. In fact were pushing the old folks to let us put the coarse up again. Were useing a 1995 or so HO Vengence 70 inch ( very heavy ) with Obrien bindings with a rear heel piece. So it sounds like me and budies are stuck with this set up.
Is the willeys similar as the Obrien? I am looking for more support and a better fit.

I can't attest to the hinged slalom bindings but I did buy a CWB (Conley) wakeboard last year with the hinged Torq bindings and I love them. I think I would have to do some research and even demo hinged slalom bindings before going that route but I would certainly be giving them a hard look as they are just great to get in and out of.
I'm not a hard core skier that has been doing the course for years but slalom is by far my favorite water sport. I've been skiing an HO Burner for a few years now which is part of their Comp Freeride series and it's a great ski for someone like myself who is in their mid 40's but always trying to improve. Easy to get up on and really loves to get on and hold an edge.

Double Boots are going to be out of the question unless you can get up with both feet in.

Wish I could Demo around here we have only generic sport's store's that carry alot of junk beginner stuff. If I could get a photo of a rear hinged binding with it in the full open position would probably answer my questions.
Or, I could just get the power slot for my MC to get my but out of the water. Although my buddy this spring ripped the cartilidge from my ribs on a deep water start which cost about 5 weeks of no skiing. Not his fault but being a new boat to all of us we had no idea of the acceleration, wow !
Thanks for the info.

I have skiied on the Drafts all year. No way you would be able to do this and if you fell trying, you would have a broken ankle on the front leg because they wont release!
As for normal skiing I love my Drafts!!!

Gixxer,
Both daughter and son want the Draft/Hinged bindings for their Connelly Hook skis. Question is, do you need both the front and rear or can they keep the toe piece for the rear.
My son has the Faction Hinge for his wakeboard and loves it.
Sorry for the nube question, I don't ski.

caden... i also ski on the draft bindings... i would NOT reccomend skiing a front draft with a rear toe, i have went out the front and done over 6 flips and not had the boots move... in my opinion if i had a front and an RTP i would likely have a messed up knee or ankle in that wreck... for skiing with an RTP i would reccomend something like the connelly stoker or the nova...

Blair You mean you flipped out of the drafts or your feet stayed in them? Seems a rear toe piece would be a non issue because of the ease of coming out... or am I on the wrong train of thought.
Any other companies out there make rear heel pieces that support and capable of entry while up on the skiis?

i did over 6 complete front flips... and both feet stayed in the boots... when i finished i could have gotten right back up with out even re adjusting my feet... those boots hold super well

Blair, thanks for the info
So if you are getting a binding that does not release, you should use them
on both the front and back binding for safety reasons.
Thanks, I will look into the stoker or nova
