View Full Version : Now that we are barefooting backwards...

Start providing some advise on back to fronts. I have been successful a couple of times and I chalk it up to luck. What advice can be provided.

I should say that I cannot foot backwards....this is my disclaimer
But a friend of mine visited Seiple a few time to learn. What he said is two things: one, try to stay backwards as long as possible and two, do a finger count down. In other words, take your pinky off the handle, ring finger, middle, ect so eventally you won't have your hand on the handle. From that point, you should be able to do your back to front.

There's a good thread with a lot of expert advice on the ABC forum on this one. I'm by no means an expert, just started doing them this year on shoes, on the short rope, at about 30MPH. I'm at a point where I'm landing them about 90%. I've tried them on my feet several times and have not landed one yet but am getting close.
Key for me was to be patient. All you need to do is let go of the handle on one side and you'll come around if you maintain you're body position. Don't think about coming around, just think about maintaining that back barefoot position, stare at the horizon through the turn when you do start turning, and think about your head being in the same location at the end of the turn as it was in the beginning (i.e. you're head is the axis for the pivot). If you try to force the turn, jump, rotate, etc you'll come out the front, or the side (which hurts). Let the pull on the one hand bring you around and don't do anything else. Its really pretty easy once you learn to be patient and not force yourself to turn. Actually its really cool when you land one.

I've been wrk'n on these for awhile, been gett'n up fair - mid on shoes, so so barefooted.
Plan on making a few more attemps in the morn'n, got the wife to :steering:me jus' don't a have a third to video tape me :(
