For those who own a older Holley carb I proved something can be done to them. My boat a 1993, 205 with at GT40 ford was shutting off at idle many times in a 1 hour period of use most at idle. Pain in the A...
I removed the carb and completely disassembled except the butterflys. With 2 cans of carb cleaner and my compressor I blew out every hole in it. Makeing sure to count the turns in on the air screws before removal. Paying close attention to the very small holes in the bottom of the fuel blow primary side and small holes in the bottom of the venturis idle circut. Check the float levels they should be about horizontal with the carb when held upside down. Reassembled with only damaging one small gasket that I replaced and cut myself.
Reinstalled and so far about 10 hours later almost perfect accept a normal stall now and then. Moral of the story save your money don't spend money on another carb your's can work fine. After much investigating I would only buy the 650 Demon for about $ 375 and install the down tubes myself. Demon's work and they aint no old Holley from the 70's
Lake: if you read this I'll have this boat worn out soon take good care of my new one ( I like red to ).
