Well I found myself a nice boat: 95 Prostar 190 w/LT-1 and pretty low hours. I do not actually have posession of it yet, but money is down. I will soon be ordering a new slalom ski and would like to see if I can get any help from the experts. In looking at Bart's and Overton's (are there better places with better prices?) I am interested in the Connelly Concept or perhaps the F1X. I would like to stay away from the $1000 class and stay closer to the $500 +/- range if possible.

I have only skied in a course a couple times many many years ago, so most skiing is just free skiing slalom. I would say I am probably well in the above average for abilities for non-course skiing. I typically ski in the 32 +/- mph range at 65 or less feet of rope. Any suggestions on skis to look at in that range and what do you think about the Concept and F1X? I am not loyal to Connelly, those just seem decent from the text. Definitely double boot and probably 68" if that matters. I am 6'0" and a little over 200 but working to get that back towards my more normal 185-190 (too much travelling for work really hurts me).

Any help, ones to avoid or ones to look at?

Thanks,
Scott

Nice Boat,

Congrats.

I would try either Wileyski or Adrenaline watersports for a new ski. Call Wiley's (206-762-1300) and ask for Stan. He's been working at Wiley's for Years and is a good person to talk to about what would be the best ski for you to be on. He'll point you in the right direction...

Good luck,

Rule #1 on this board... Post Pictures when you get them! :)

I recommend a HO Triumph for that price range. Great ski for the bucks. Check with MYMC here on the board, he is an HO dealer and may be able to get you a last years model to save money. he may possibly even get you a blem or demo to save a few bucks depending on what he has available to him. If your dollar conscious and looking for used skis, ebay is a good source or www.ski-it-again.com and if your looking for used skis, and HO Vengeance is also a great ski. I have one and its fun to ski, stable, but aggresive. you could also look at Obrien Synchro and Obrien Siege. Siege's are like a less rigid Mapple model, they can be had fairly cheap as they are not very popular. I do recommend HO though, the quality of bindings is better, and the skis are just built better all around. thats my input. :twocents:

I'll second Wileys, Mastercraft of Charlotte (MYMC), and ski-it-again.com. Also check out hoskishop.com and the marketplace on TeamTalk site.

I've heard the F1X is a very stable and forgiving ski but performs well enough to get you pretty deep into shortline in the slalom course.

Chris, how is your new Monza????

Monza is Fast. I'm skiing 22's and a few balls at 28 34mph now. The Instruction I got down south is really starting to kick in and make sense now. I'm excited to see where I can get to.

At the shoutout I skied 15, 22 and 1 ball at 28off 32mph. But now with the Monza. I feel better at the faster speeds anyway. I'm gonna try 36mph this weekend to see how that feels. The Monza Craves speed. and it turns MUCH better at 34 than even at 32. so I'm not going back to 32mph anymore. I'm on to better things. You should see how Early and Wide I am even at 22off. So I don't think it'll be long before I will be shortening up even more!

How are things with you? How's Annie?

Ok this is probably a Major Thread jack Violation. Sorry guys.

Tell me more...I am still struggling at 32 MPH and trying to figure out a way to blame the monza. :D Specifically, how is it better?

It felt to me like it didn't want to turn very well at slower speed. Meaning it took a wider arc to turn it. Now at 34. When I initiate the turn, and get the ski on edge, it turns immediately. I think it's because the ski needs to flex to bite hard and turn. and at a slower speed, it doesn't flex as much as it needs to. This is all with the stock fin settings. If you are skiing 32mph. and this sounds like the issues you are having. You might want to try and move the fin forward a little. That was my next step before I bumped up the speed. Now I'm excited to try 36mph. cuz 34 felt so much better than 32.

I believe the ski was designed for the 34 and 36 mph shortline skiers - not hackers like most of us. MYMC told me when I bought my Monza from him that the ski is happier when it gets into the shorter line lengths. I've been able to satisfy it a few times, but haven't made it happy yet! :D

Exactly! that's why I bought mine... now i have no excuse not to start skiing faster and shorter... Not saying I'm gonna make any buoys, but at least the ski will be happy! 8p
