View Full Version : Madison, WI People, I need some help

I'm going to have my boat in Madison around Aug. 25th for a few days. This will be my last chance to use it before my last year of school starts so I'll be putting it into storage for the winter after that. I'm wondering if anyone knows a place to park it overnight, or if I can rent a slip somewhere. I live in a house on Lake Mendota, but I am not allowed to keep watercraft tied up to the dock. I could possibly use a buoy for a few days, but don't know what the laws are and also it isn't my first choice of storage due to the possibility of high winds and waves that seem to come out of nowhere. As it is I don't have a parking space for the trailer and boat, but if anyone knows a safe place to keep it I would be willing to repay with beer, pulls, money, whatever. I also know there is a dealership in Madison and that they frequent this board, so any help would be appreciated.

I would call Mike at Redline Watersports in Madison. Mike is a great guy and I bet he would be willing to let you park in the lot in front over night. If nothing else, it would be more visibility for the dealership from the Hwy. He is also on the board from time to time, and you might want to send him a PM. I believe his site name is LQ9lover.

Thanks I sent a PM to No Skeez who I believe works at Redline, but I don't want to be too forward and ask if I can take up room in their parking lot for a few days when they may be busy.

I have a buddy(and MC owner) who skis with Mad City. He lives on a lake somewhere around MCFarland(excuse the Texas guy who doesn't know the area). I tried to call him to see if he had any ideas. No answer-I bet he's skiing!

Andyg - Just replied back, thanks.

Tex - If you hear from your buddy let me know. The more options the better.

My probable dates are Aug. 26-30ish.

call Mazanet Marina or Skipper Buds. You might be able to rent a slip for a short while. Also The Boathouse rents boat storage which is on land. All of these places are on the North side of Mendota in Westport. Any other questions PM me.

Thanks for the help everyone. I called The Boathouse and they are going to let me drop my boat overnight in their lot for a very reasonable fee for 1-2 weeks.

Sorry for the delay on the response... I skied three event state this past weekend, and had left the store by Thursday night... If something falls through let me know, we would be happy to work something out for you!

Bumping this post up with a new question. Last August I rented an indoor storage unit for a month and brought my boat down from up north only to have the lakes become no wake because of the high water level. I'm debating whether to bother with the trip and storage again in April and May, but am worried with the snowfall that the lakes will be overfilled again. Anyone local have any experience or advice on if they think the local lakes (Mendota chain) will be open in early spring?

Do not even bother calling no skeez, that guy can NOT hold his liquor. It's a shame to see Madisons youth unable to handle booze like their elders.

Keep your fingers crossed for not a lot of rain! I know the Rock River is closed down in Janesville already, and the lakes around here are usually pretty close in line with the river, albeit a bit more forgiving. As of now, even with all the snow melt, I would guess we should be ok, but can't say for sure...

I'll keep you posted as we hear anything!

Sounds good. I'll also be coming in this week or next to check out new skis.

I think I saw some actual water walking to class today. Anyone know how high the lakes are? I'm sure the rain this weekend isn't going to help.

At least you have rain, it is snowing hard here (twin cities) at the moment on expected to snow on through Sat.

We're on Kegonsa and just put the pier in yesterday :) The levels seem to be a bit higher than normal this time of year and with all the rain we're getting tonight (1-2 inches) it will be interesting! Getting the boat any day now...yippie!
