You should be able to get them from your local MC dealer. On the prostar, they are two large pieces that have to be worked in to the slot. Quite time consuming (helps to have 2 people working it).

Are you referring to the plastic insert in the aluminum rail or the whole assembly, including the rail?

Learned a trick to putting in the rub rails. Took a tour of the Elan (American Skier) factory a couple of weeks ago and they had a very large pot (about the size of a turkey fryer) that they coiled the rub rail into filled with water and boiled. They said you take it out (with gloves) and the rub rail goes into the slot almost effortlessly. Said they use two people, one to pull the end tight and the other to press the rub rail into the aluminium channel.

Sorry no source for the rail but figured I would pass along the install.

I could use a new rubber insert for my 82 as well.
I looked at a few mail order houses, but they didn't give enough info to assure me it would fit.

Brian, Interesting tip, I was just thinking about what a PITA it is to replace the insert. I'm doing mine this spring. Thanks!

Try www.tacometals.com They have basically every insert (custom colors even) and every type of rail available as well as a guide for installing. I believe they actually are the supplier for most makes including MasterCraft. I'm going to get the rails for my 89 tristar from them in the spring.

How about a group buy for stainless steel rub rail inserts :) ?

My rubber insert on my '87 Prostar is in pretty tough shape. When I went to the TACO site above their selection guide engine only went back to 93. I would be interested in a post from the original poster when he finds a solution since his is probably the same as mine.

Thanks.

The rub rail insert on my '94 PS205 is in good shape. But the weird thing is it shrunk. On the back of the boat where the MC clamp is holding the ends of the rub rail, the insert has shrunk in length so there is a 3" gap on either side. If anyone makes a purchase & has a foot or so left over, I'd appreciate it if I could get some to fill the gap. Drop me an email at bill@airjunky.com. I'll be glad to pay for shipping.

Not to change subject, but how are things at Elan Boats. My cousin, Ron Tanis, use to own American Skier and since he sold it to Ben Favret I've heard nothing but bad things. Please tell me he hasn't driven that company into the ground.
