View Full Version : HO Monza Sizing for 5 10 195lbs 28/32 off at 36mph?
Hi, my buddy(5 10 190lbs) and I(5 10 198lbs) are shopping for new skis, both of us are aggressive ex-alpine ski racers. He currently has a 2001 67 Phantom and I have a 02 68 Truth, both with Animal Bindings. We ski at about the same level making 28 off at 36mph(27 yrs old) and working towards 32 off. It seems HO neglected to put a sizing chart on there website. Our local shop has nice staff but since we are in VT they dont sell too many skis at this level, to offer advice.
What size Monzas should we buy? I used to ski a 67 Goode and found it to short as well as the times I have skied a 67 Phantom.
Thanks in advance for your advice. Jamie

From my memory of HO's sizing chart, I think both of you could easily go 68" or 69". I'm 170 lbs give or take and ski on a 68" CDX, which I also skied on at 192 lbs.

I just got a new HO book the other day at the boat show. It has a chart in it, but it isn't specific to Monza. It only goes by weight, but for 150-200lbs at 34-36 MPH it calls for 67"-68". If you like I can scan the page and e-mail it to you. :)
67" for you and 68" for your buddy...I have 5 of the 67" in stock, email of you need pricing. We also have the new Approach boots in stock.
MYMC, the extra 9lbs pushes me to the 68, making the threashold between 67-68 190ish pounds? What if I plan to loose them, does that count?
Thanks, Jamie
One of my ski partners is 5' 10" 195 to 200 (depending on the amount of beer consumed during the winter) and he loves the 67" and felt the 68" was just too long in the turns. He is a 35 off skier at 34mph.
Buddy #2 is 6'0" 190lbs and loves the 68"! Felt like the 67" was too small for him to generate the cross course speed he was looking for. However, this is a guy that runs 38' off and has run 39' (at 34mph) so take that for what it is worth.
Me I'm 6'3" 210 and had to take the wing off to make 28'!
(hope this helps  )
The good news is I have yet to see anyone break at the waist on this thing!

Curious why you haven't seen somone break at the waist, is it something the ski is doing to make up for the talent on top of the ski?
Well...I can only assume so. The ski is really and I mean really easy to push out in front of you.
Here is how it was put to me by a guy (42 years old) that is completely eaten up by this sport after his first set on my ski (before he purchased his)..."it is absolutley amazing that after all these years of making skis one can come along that it that much better...I never believed it was possible!"
(I very soon thereafter parted him from his money. What are friends for?)
I see Eddie and I agree
Thanks for the advice I think we are both going to go with 68, hopefully the water with thaw here in VT by April! Jamie

5'-11", 195 lbs here and I ski on a 68" Monza (thanks to MYMC). I do break at the waist at times, but found reducing tip on the fin will help - that and better technique

What if I'm curious about trying a Monza again at 5'10"/175/36 mph? 67"??

I'm 5'10, 170 and ski a 67 albeit a bit slower than 36 mph in the course.
