View Full Version : Time to replace fuel pump???

Last couple of weeks my '03 x-30 has been dying. Doesn't matter whether I'm idling, full throttle, or somewhere in between. I can turn the key and am sure the fuel pump is not priming. I wiggled the plug connected to the pump and it will crank. But it might be 10 minutes or 2 hours before it happens again.

Plug has three wires (black, grey, & green). When I turn the key to on, voltmeter reads 12.3 volts with the black probe touching the black wire and the red probe touching the grey wire. When I move the red probe to the green wire, I get no reading. Now the reading only lasts for 3-5 seconds, then it gradually reads back down to 0.0 volts. So I know I am getting power to the pump (assuming the volts are supposed to drop off after a few seconds).

Looks like the piece on the pump that the plug inserts into is built into the pump. So I would need to replace the entire pump. Any ideas????

Have you ever run the fuel tank to a very low state?
