Finally, the 214 has arrived at Chicago MasterCraft :) Had it in the water yesterday and pulled a bunch of skiers at our local course. So far, everyone seems to like the wake, and loves the wake size!

I am headed to the lake in about an hour to see how it is for some barefoot runs, nothing like the power of the LY6 :)

I really like the interior configuration. Plenty of room for everyone!

That is one nice boat though! Mastercraft hit another homerun with this model!

I really want to be sold on this model and I think it is a cool setup but two functional questions come to mind. Losing the trunk - where do you store the skis (if you don't add a tower) and how convenient will they be? and I think losing the sundeck on the back will be a big loss for many potential users.

Not to be a downer just looking for other opinions on the functionality of losing the trunk and sundeck.

I love the 214 as long as the wake meets all the hype...

if you get the vanilla 214 there's ski storage

-under the starboard seats aft of the drivers seat
-under the observers seat
-in the keel ski locker

if you get the X-14 the starboard seats and keel locker are unavailable due to ballast tanks

What's the purpose of the starboard seat? Looks crowded to me. Also, the lack of sun pad would be a big negative for me - one reason I wanted a 197. On the plus side, there seems to be plenty of seating for the family for those of you who ski with a big group.

Sharp looking boat.

The 214 is GIANT compared with the 197. That's the appeal to me. The question for me remains how is the wake...But the reviews here have been positive so far.

Yes it is big. But I prefer to have standing/walking around room in my boat. I even remove the rear seat - in my 197 and when I had my old 190 - when I know I'm just going out to ski. Those seats tend to just get in the way IMO.

I'm not knocking the 214. She's a beauty - just not ideal for my use.

Don't forget to post some pics of your new 214 when you get her John - along with a ski test report. ;) How's your 197 doing?

I have to agree about both the trunk, and the ski storage question. I generally have my ski in the trunk, and the guys who I ski with pile theirs behind the drivers seat. I looked at an X14 earlier this year just for curiosity, and the configuration would not work for the way I use my boat. But, everyone has their own thing.

I thought the same thing until I climbed around in one two weeks ago. That stbd rear facing seat was more roomy than I expected, enough for my more than narrow kiester. The whole boat was more roomy than expected. I had initially thought it would be like the wide Tige 21i in size feel, but it felt bigger without feeling like a barge. Thin gunnels help there I suppose.

i still mine under the observer seat. If you get a 214 instead of the X14 you have a ski locker in the floor. We had the same thoughts, but once we got the X14 everything we actually needed foudn a home.

Thanks Eric - I was one of the lucky skiers on Saturday to drive and ski behind Erics's new toy. This boat is the real deal, as big as it is we were all very skeptical and waiting for a 209 like experience. We skied from 15 through 35 off - the word amazing was used alot. The wakes were excellent - basically no different than the usual assortment of MCs, SNs, and BUs that we typically ski.

The good:
- Great ski wakes
- Lots of space - huge storage areas behind the observers seat and underneath the deck
- Handles heavy chock much better than a typical inbourd
- Lots of cup holders
- Tons of room up front for the kids
- Once you're going lots of get up and go
- Unique (in a good way) jump seat set-up
- Huge deck which would be great for swimming with the kids

Needs Work
- The wrap around seating needs work - there is no area in back to store equipment - the gunwale behind the driver is kind of wasted space
- Needs a tunable rudder - tracking was just ok
- You needed to give it a bit more pop than I would have expected out of the hole with the LY6 - probably a prop issue - lots of get up and go once on plane
- This is a big boat, it's not as nimble as a smaller boat in the course, but it had no problem with our tight turnaround
- Loud - apparently this year the 214 does not have any mufflers so compared to what I'm used to with my 205 this boat seemed noisy - and not in a good way - air intake gave off a high pitched whine

Overall assessment - this is a winner - am I running down to write Eric a check? Not right now - but in the next year or two he might get one from me. There is finally a real replacement in the Mastercraft line for the 205 where there is all upside and pretty much no compromise.

Thanks again for the pull Eric - come out more often.

I'll see what I can do about getting out again sometime very soon so you can give some direct comparison between the 214 and 197.

It will definetly be a rougher ride down river though :(

as in, "Trust Me?" OK, Rudy Russo, but just remember, if Erk raizez he11, you could have union trouble by you horning in on his job. Personally, I would leave the chicken haulin to erk, because he is going to bring it down Smokey and the Bandit style, with a 78 black & gold TA, and a Semi.
