I have an HO CDX1 it has threaded inserts in it in the middle of the ski, one in front of the ski in the center and one in the rear in the center. I bought it used so I thought they were put there by the previous owner sometime in its life.

I then saw this auction, the ski has the same inserts as mine. What are the inserts for? Anyone know?

They're for attaching the boots without having to drill the ski.

They are for those cross bar things to keep the skis apart, you know like the trainer skis have. ;)

They are for the greatest invention of all time, called the HO PowerStix... And if you can't read my sarcasm, that's too bad, cause I'm layin' it on pretty thick!

The Powerstix allowed the user to adjust the stiffness of the ski by attaching "stiffner rods" for lack of a better term. The more rigid the rod, the stiffer the ski became. To soften up the flex, simply remove or loosen the rod.

Not a bad idea, just not very practical...

Hope that helps!

I heard that you had your Monza modified to use the bar along with your old slalom ski. How did it turn out for ya?

Hmm, HO powerstix, I'll have to look that up.

Found one picture of them, glad to know that my ski wasn't part of a combo set. ;) Wonder where I could get them to see how, if they work.

They were on the 1996 vintage HO CDX and the other model I can't remember.

The other ski was the HO VTR, I still have that ski, and play on it from time to time as I have a soft spot for my first "real" ski. I did not get the powerstix option though so I cannot report on how effective it is or is not. The holes look stupid on it they could have made some plug or something to make it look better.
