alright, so all has been well with the ballast system until just here recently. i replaced all my impellers and now i'm having trouble with the pumps filling properly and emptying sometimes. i may have messed up by not using marine grade grease to lube the impeller housing...do you think that'd cause the impeller to bind up at all once water was mixed with the grease?
and another thing, is it possible to put the impeller in wrong? i don't see how you could, but i was just curious.
any tips would be helpful.

"Trouble" being???
Replaced them with the 'yellow' impellers?
Not sure about the grease binding things up, but it's plausible. Don't know that I'd want grease in the system. My Simers call for vegetable oil.
How tight did you tighten the caps? I'm not advocating making them loose, but if I backed off the screws (on former '02 X10 with Jabscos) it seemed to help the binding some.

Sounds like it could be the grease. The ones I installed this year were the new ones, much more flexible and they came pre-lubed. The lube was much thinner than grease.
No expert here though. ;)

i don't remember seeing the yellow ones when i went to order the new ones

Unfortunately you may have replaced the bad with the questionable. I have seen/experienced grease that gets gummy when contacting water. You might want to pull the impellers out and clean them and the housings up.

when you replaced the old ones were they missing pieces? Could be the missing pieces are clogging something. I had this problem at the start of the year and had to replace a pump because it kept shutting off by itself (thermal overload).

hmmm....i guess flushing out all the hoses would be a good idea.....along with cleaning the pump housings.......and some fresh marine grade grease.

Those black impellers are too stiff for the pump, the way it's wired up. New ones are probably stiffer than the old ones, causing your problems.
If you bought them from a MC dealer, take 'em back - they should have sold you the yellow ones.
I had no end of pump problems until I got the yellow ones.
