Well I have finally used my new ski (06 monza with approach bindings) enough to be getting used to it. I am lookin for some tips and advice on getting the ski to work for me better. It seems sluggish when I go to initate the turn. Ill put some pictures up in the next post of some of my turns. Trying to figure out if it is my technique or need to adjust the stance/fin.
Thanks
Dave

your riding way to far back on the ski. try bending your knees alot more and putting more weight on the front.

Ditto. Bend those knees. Ultimately the water should be breaking on the ski just in front of your front toes.

Thats what I thought and thats how it was with my old ski. I thought maybe just new ski, gonna ride a lot different. I feel better now that I was right about that.

If you have good form with a nice bent knees and the water is still breaking back you may need to move the bindings forward a hole. But from those pictures it looks like it can be corrected with bent knees and better form.

I totally agree. The minute I saw the first picture. You are tailing it. The ski won't turn on the tail. I am guilty of this especially when I carry too much speed into a turn. It feel like your putting the brakes on, but in fact the best way to slow down and turn is to let your hips rock forward a little, and bend your knees.

The slack rope often comes from pulling after you cross the wakes which creates excess speed in the turn which make you jump on the tail.Try a slow progressive pull from the completion of the turn & stay on edge through the wakes & then change edge or flatten out the ski & wait for it to start to slow down before starting you next turn. Having rhythm & symmetry are more important then getting wide at this point for you.

Thanks for all the advice and tips. I think that fact that my old ski was way too small cause the bad habit.

How fast are you skiing? I am no expert, but a little more boat speed may help. It looks like you're sinking a bit.

I suffer from a similar style, and although I know I do it, it is hard for me to change. Besides bend your knees, the other comment I have gotten is flex your ankle forward and shift your hips up over the center of the ski. If you can't get your form to cooperate, as Brian said, moving the boot forward a hole or two may help.

Good Luck with the new ski.

I will give it all a try when I get out skiing next. Have wakefest this weekend, so hopefully next week sometime.

From the wake... it would appear he is skiing at least 32mph. More speed won't correct poor form. Chris Parrish told me a few weeks ago that he skis at 30-32mph every once and a while to work on various things. and to run 41's.

You could also just do a quick check to see where your bindings are placed. Stock would be 29.25" from the tail for your front boot and 17 from the tail for your rear. Check the "Monza Setup" Thread for more detailis.

Well I finally got to go out skiing this weekend and bending my knees helped out a lot. Ski was riding in the proper place and I was able turn the ski quicker. Thanks for all the help.

Next goal is trying to find a course to ski.

This threadThe FIX MY FORM thread (http://www.tmcowners.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=274)helped me a lot in understanding the correct position. I have marked this thread as a suscribed thread to make it easy to refer to.
One of the best thread in my opinion...

The course was only put in the lake 2 weeks ago (by myself). No one is available to help me with installing  for all kind of bad reasons. One ancor moved during the winter and need to be pushed further. I can't fix that by myself. My ski partner promised to help me tomorrow morning first thing.... (same promise for 3 weeks now...)

If everything goes well I will have my fist pass through the course this year tomorrow. I feel like 22off is a possibility before the end of August.

PB is 6@15off 34MPH from last year.

I start my vacation in a few hours.....
Will be up North for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I don't plan to go to the Township.... Give me a call if you come my way. I will give you a pull on a very calm lake...

BTW what happened to all the pictures on the FIX MY FORM thread?
