I am trying to determine if I can use a straight barefoot boom or do I want/need a bent one. I have the 1993 ps 205. Does the windshield go past the ski pylon. My boat is not home..

I believe the windshield does go past the pylon, thus you will need a bent boom. I could be wrong but I've footed off a 93 205 and it was crooked, that doesn't mean that it hade to be but it was.

Maybe this will help. Maybe not. Sorry about the angle. From the pic, it looks as if a not so straight boom would be a better bet. No experience with it personally, but we do have the same boat.

Well, maybe a slight bend ??? There are several and I think the B.I. boom that you can use is either the Universal Boom or the single contour boom but not the straight (gunnel connect). Mark, you will probably want the height adjuster and extension also?

You will need the contour boom if you have a tapered pylon.

Thanks for the help guys

Footin, until you said that (and I looked back at the photo of Doug’s boat), I didn’t put two and two together. I see now at least one reason that I need the contour boom.

So it can mount below the taper.. Is that right??

Yes, it will mount just below the beginning of the taper.

Also...even if you do not need the contour, you can still use it. It makes it much easier to step over the boom while mounted.

Nice pic, definately looks like the piney woods of East Texas.

Yup. To borrow slightly from the late Henny Youngman, take my pine trees, please. :)

Another question. What brand is best?? Is there a big difference between brands?

I don’t think I am going to be a “hard Core” footer, so I’m thinking Brand will be less important to me, or is that a mistake?

Whether a hard core footer or a recreational footer it is important to have good equipment. Everyone has their opinion on this but I prefer the Barefoot International boom (universal contour on my 85 S & S). The product is well made and the customer support is excellent. Another consideration is IF you decide that barefooting is not for you and you want to sell the boom in the future you will get a good return with the Barefoot International boom.

You can not go wrong with a Barefoot International boom. I have had my for 10 years with no problems. ECI also makes a good boom.

You are kidding right?

I got the boom from a guy that couldn’t find the clamp, (its in great shape). The clamp I got from ebay, its on the way now. Extension, I don’t need no stinking extension..

No he's not. They make one. There is also one that makes the handle smaller for kids. I have both. If you ever need barefoot gear, go to barefootcentral.com They are great! Ask for Michelle or Chuck. Also-Vortex is making great new suits! Paul Stokes is a friend of mine and he is top notch. He is at some for of fluid distritution.com.

Thanks for the tips, tex. I did see that smaller diameter handle for the kids. I think the boom is going to help with the kids training. That is if I don’t start that bare footin stuff. Then the kids may have to fight me for boom time:o

On another topic. Barefoot INt. has a new tower mount boom on the market. I have only seen a pictue of it but looks like a cool idea. Espically for the V-Drive guys.

I saw the tower mount (a photo) when I was looking for a boom. It does look cool. BIs V Drive boom looks like it would do the trick too

Maybe not but with a bent pole you may need a “height adjustment tool.” ;)

I’m going to need something. (even though my height is just fine)
