My 2003 197 steering was getting so stiff to actually be causing problems. So, I made an appointment and they dropped off a trailer {don't own a trailer}. Dragged it out to their store, they told me it would take 2 hours to do that and a couple of other things. I went to breakfast, then visited Home Depot, and dropped into a Cingular store, hopefully fixing a weird problem I've had with phone rebooting. Got back right around 2 hours and the boat was finished, and what a HUGE diff!
How do you know your boat is dirty??? When even the dealer makes a comment they have never seen your boat this dirty before! Get the boat home, take it to the quarter car wash and clean the carpet. Drop it in the water with SWMBO, and it WON'T START :( The throttle lever had fallen off and fussing, put it back on, not thinking to try and start the boat before wandering to the launch site. I'm really fussing now, because it would start in gear, but not neutral. So, I drag the boat all the way back out there again, fussing most of the way. I had left myself just barely enough time to return their empty trailer b4 they closed.
Bottom line, they probably shut the engine off with the throttle still in gear. Through pure coincidence, the lever fell off during transportation, as they never touched it during steering cable repair. When I reinstalled it, it was out of sequence. Their mechanics stayed past closing and got me working again. Now I have to figure out how to get their trailer back out there again, as I even had to borrow a truck to transport the boat!
Neither SWMBO nor I can park the boat in the boat house, the loose steering causes us to way over steer. Took me three passes after the fireworks last night, and it never takes more then one, no matter how many adult beverages!!!
