View Full Version : 88TS Prop Shaft Install

First post so hello everyone and thanks ahead of time for any consideration..

Just a couple quick questions..

I have the old shaft completely removed as well as the strut (the strut was bent but has since been straightened). I noticed in removing the strut that there was some sort of 'sealer' or 'caulk' around the edges and bolt holes presumably to increase water tight integrity. Will it be necesary to to use this material in re-installing the strut and if so, what kind of 'sealer' would be best to use?

Second question. Should spacing be left between the shaft and transmission couplers? I read somewhere that .003" should be left when tightening them down. If this is the case, whats the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks again and if anyone has undergone this process, any tips, tricks, or pearls of knowledge would be GREATLY appreciated :)
I am, by no means, a natural mechanic but what I lack with regard to skill I make up for with dirty grit :D

Depending on timeframe before use, I'd use either the 3m 5200 or 4200 sealant which is available at Walmart.
