87 prostar 190 powerslot Indmar 351 (240 hp?)
Anyone know the oil filter for this thing? I'm heading to WalMart tonight but I keep the boat elsewhere and I wanted to change the stuff this weekend @ the lake. Also, recommended oil for this engine if ya'll know. thanks in advance.
We should get a board with threads for just the items for the different motors...I searched for this but they exclude oil and I couldn't find anyone talking about an Indmar from this year.

Check out "Frequently Asked Questions" at the top under General Discussion and www.mastercraft.com, Knowledge Center, manuals, under 1989, everything is there.

Let me just answer the question for you !!!

20w 50 or a good 10-40 is fine. If you are running HIGHER RPMS
for slalom and barefoot basically over 3300-4400 PRMs use the
20-50 TURBO oil.

One of may all time favorite hulls

I use the Fram PH-8a for referance only - I don'y remember the K&N number..... I have been using a solid 30w oil.... Might try the 20-50 turbo. That high rpm's is me!!!

Sweet, I do a lot of waterskiing, so does my fiance, but we board sometimes and kneeboard too. I wish the boat cruised better, but it does what it was made for -- pullin' a skier! I'll probably just get the 20/50. Thanks for the help

You can't go wrong with the Motorcraft FL-1 filter. IT's the original Ford filter.

Motorcraft FL-1A. Walmart carries the Pennzoil 15W40 Marine oil (look for it over by the boat wax and life jackets as opposed to the car parts section).

What is the oil capacity of the 351W? I completely drained the oil and put in 5 quarts but the dip stick is showing it WAY over full. I would like to point out that I have not run the engine since the oil change the other day. Would that make a difference?

1/2 quart in the filter and 4.5 quarts in the motor puts mine where it needs to be. Be sure to check your oil level on the water as that is "level."

Pretty much any filter besides the equivalent Pennzoil (which is a rebadged Fram).

Stick with Motorcraft, Wix (Napa), Mobil1 or Purolator.

Thanks ETS - That is what I thought.

This may depend on the filter. But that's worked for me with the motorcraft.

Go to Napa and pick up a Napa Gold 1069 filter and the Rotella T 15w-40. Indmar reccomends the 15w-40 for all of its older engines now and the Napa / Wix filters are very good and a descent price.
