OK. SO I have concrete patio surrounding my pool. It was carpeted for years, and we had a major moss growth problem as the sun doesnt hit it enough with the big trees in the area. so I had to do something. I had to get rid of the carpeting. I researched everything and weighed out the costs and decided to paint it. so I wanted to get something nice looking. so I found this stencil to create a "random" brick pattern. I got that stencil from Sherwin Williams and picked 2 colors of concrete stain. then covered it with a clear coat that I put the grippy stuff in so its not slippery. Given the short season we have, and limted budget I didnt want to fork out major $$$. this is what I came up with. Here is how it looks.

So, Here is proof that you CAN operate a Canon Rebel XT in program mode while drunk off your arse. I have no idea how I got these night pics to work correctly while rummed up:o

Well, Ms. UMP would frown upon me inviting a shiot load of chicks over to the pool. she was there in her swimsuit, but wouldnt let me post pics of her. she is shy like that.

Thanks for all the compliments fellas!:) I am very happy with it.

Its just practical. I mean, sure, I would love to have it done with pavers, but I dont have the extra $20K for it.

Your compliments really make me feel even better about it. Thanks guys!:)

Hey Ump, I asuume you did this over exsisting concrete??? If so, were there cracks in the concrete and if there were how did this paint cover the cracks. I have problems with my concrete around my pool and am looking for ideas....I really like yours

Slinkster, YES! I had PLENTY of concrete cracks. Thats the whole idea, to cover up all that ugliness. SO I ripped up all the carpeting, then pressure washed everything. then got some concrete crack patching stuff that you mix up with water and patched all the cracks. after that was all dry, the next step was to acid wash/etch the concrete. then I pressure washed again, and let it dry. then before I put the first coat of stain down, I gave it a quick pressure wash to get all the bird crap, etc... off of it and dried it with a leaf blower. then I rolled the stain on. then when that was dry, the stencil part was done to paint the fake 'rocks' in it. then the clear coat. We will see how it fares after a UP winter. but the concrete has been there for 25 years and its in good shape, just a few cracks developed over the years.

Thanks all! :) :wavey:

I was kinda worried how it would turn out. Like I said, I would have loved to go with pavers, but just couldnt fork out the major $$$ to do it, so I wanted a practical solution that was cost effective. Using my own labor, I only paid for paint & materials, which amounted to about $500. Not a bad deal I think. The stain is intended for this pool side application, and is supposed to be resistant to pool chemicals, and work well on concrete. I put 2 coats of clear on it just to make sure. and I will clear coat it every year at a cost of about $30. The big thing is the prep work. A good paint job is only as good as the prep work. If you prep your surface right, you will have a good job for a long time. if you skimp on the prep work, its not gonna last.

So UMP, have you been enjoying your new deck?

I looked this thread up because my wife wants to have our patio done. She got an estimate of $1400 to have it done - for 580 sq. ft. I like the do-it-yourself idea better! How much time did you invest in it?

Nice job UMP. Missed this the first time... So did you put in a ramp to back the bote in for winterizing?
