I was asked if I wanted to travel up to Crane, IN for work during the week of June 27. I'm not sure... Anybody here live/ski in that area? If you have a slalom course, I'd love to get a pull. I can drive the boat and pitch in for gas, etc. What the heck else is there to do up there?

edit: Wow, they didn't "***" hell. Sorry.

It's a big military base. I've ridden the crane strain bike ride, a 12 hour endurance bike ride inside the base. I think the closest lake is Lake Monroe about 35 minutes away but I am not very familiar with the area.

There are some smaller lakes around there.

Mixing the pain killers with the martinis, eh Tex? :D

If I go, it will be to the Navy base there. I google mapped it and there looks to be a nice little lake a couple miles to the east of town.

I stay in Bloomington, which is about an hour north. Indiana University is there as well as some nicer hotels/bars/rest. There is no place to stay in Crane, unless you can get into billeting on base.

Like Leroy said, It is a rather large military munitions base located in central southern Indiana west of Bedford, Indiana. Lake Monroe is the closest lake. There is also a nice gambling casino in French Lick nearby...

Crane, In. If you can pass on it, do it. If that is place I think it is the nearest place for anything. Will be Bloomfield, In. which is only 10 mi. away north on 231. That will be for any hotels or places to eat, I think there is couple of bars there to. But if all possible I would pass.......

I'm flying into Indianapolis early tomorrow evening and would like to visit the city, have dinner at a decent place before making the 2 hour drive down to Crane. Any suggestions?

My flight is due into Indy at 5:15 pm and I have to drive down to Crane that night to stay at the BQ on base - got an all day meeting there Wednesday. Flying back out of Indy Thursday morning.

Unfortunately no time to ski, but I may look up that St. Elmo's place tomorrow night. Anybody want to meet, shoot me a PM by 10 a.m tomorrow morning. First round will be on me. :toast:

Didn't get to meet anybody but got to talk to HB on the phone. Indy is a cool town, but the southwest part of the state... They're an hour behind the rest of the state, and I couldn't find a *** store that sold beer on the road between Bloomington and Crane. Ended up drinking a diet coke while watching a movie in my room at the BOQ
What's up? Is that a dry county?

LOL! Well, I know that Bloomington definitely isn't dry. But during the 30 mile drive back to the base I thought it would be nice to have a beer or two while I watched a movie... I stopped at a convenience store and a couple country stores - none of them sold beer! Indy and Bloominton were both cool towns though.
