If you use AA or AAA batteries they can be free for the asking!
If you know a photo lab equipment repair technician or a photo lab employee at any Photo Lab, Drug Store Chain, Big Box Store, etc. these batteries have to be removed from disposable cameras when the film is removed for processing and the empty camera cases are sent off for recycling/reuse and the batteries disposed of properly. These batteries are still near full charge even after 27 flashes and especially this time of year, with so much outdoor pics they are never used for the flash. They would normally ship these batteries back to a recycle center, but can be used by the employees/technicians to save the company shipping costs, because they don't get paid for the used (?) batteries. A friend of ours is a equipment repair technician and works Southern VA and Central NC and visits anywhere form 4 to 8 labs a day and brought me these from just 1 lab yesterday.
All you have to do is ask!
