MC recommends 18" as a nominal dimension.

No, but you are at the top of the specs. Higher hitch heights will cause less torsion wrap and therefore less brake surge when stopping.

That Dimension is to the Top of the ball?

Around here 18" to the top of the ball is a good starting point. Some of the bigger trailers 20"

I am a little higer than that on my 197 trailer. I set my top of ball at 22" and the trailer sit level...

Mine is about the same as Sodar for my 197. When I used my 6" drop hitch to get the height to about 18-19" it looked like the trailer was setting too low in the nose. At 21-22" (3" Drop Hitch) it looks level.

Did the same thing. I did a level hitch, but it was not level at all, so I went and bought a 6" drop (3" lift) and that worked perfect.

Measured the top of the ball with out the boat and got 20 inches. Then measured it with the boat and got 18 inches. It looks and rides level at 18 inches. The X7/197 trailer has a fixed nose boat buddy so the front trailer weight is fixed too.
Good luck!

Here is my 197 @ 18"... when I put a level to the frame rail, I was off by about 3", so I bumped it up to 22" and it rides perfect now!

Looks great, my 18 inch measurement was on a single axle trailer, yours happens to be a tandem axle which I'm guessing may be the difference. Hopefully, he'll take your advice and put a level on the front and see what's best. That boat looks so nice!
