View Full Version : Starting Issue resolved

Boat would barely turn over so I bought a new battery. The problem was still there, as a matter of fact, it completely stopped turning over on Saturday.
The dealer said the slow turn sounded like a starter so I had it tested Tuesday by the same company that rebuilt it last year. Starter checked out fine.
Last night I had my son steel brush the ground contact and the battery contacts very well while I put the starter back on.
Boat fired right up.
Bad ground contact. Sometimes we fail to check the easy solution first.

I hope this story helps someone.

Yup - don't forget, there are two sides to the electrical equation - plus and minus - BOTH must be in goo order - the ground path for the starter is thru its casing so make sure the mating surfaces between starter and bell housing are CLEAN - the marine environment is REALLY harsh on things electrical
