Idiot proof propeller?
Never seen this before... It looked like it was made out of plastic with flaps on each propeller blade... weird.

Are those just blade protectors?

I think you are right.

I have seen plastic props though. My family put one on their 96' 18 Regal w/ 4.3 liter. The lake they play on in Colorado is all sand and shallow. They go thru 2 aluminum props a year (rebuild) because the sand eats the blades. Those plastic props have a center hub and you just add new blades as needed. It's a very novel idea, however on their boat it didn't work that well. Because they are so light weight the motor was over reving all the time.

Just blade protectors. People use them so that when they run into the prop with their leg they don't get sliced open. Don't think that I have ever hit the prop on an I/O, but I guess that it could happen.

i also think those are just protectors, but i know they do have plastic props. the plastic props are for emergency situations.(we have one for the pontoon)
