I just recently purchased a 94 Prostar 205 and the boat runs great, but I can only get about 4,000 RPMs out of the engine and about 37 MPH. As far as I know it has the original prop on it still. Any ideas why I can't get a little more top end speed and higher RPM's?

For starters, make sure you have a clean flame arrestor and have recently changed the fuel filters. Max RPMs should be around 4,600 with a top end of close to 45--46 mph.

Also, check your throttle cable linkages to ensure you have a full range of motion.

Mine tops out at 42 mph, is that normal for a stock boat? (With tower, gear, two people)

You know, I may have the numbers wrong for the Chevy. Also, if you're running a hand finished four blade, you'll lose about 1--2 mph on the top.

I think mine runs WOT 42mph at about 4400-4500 RPMs with a 13x13 3-blade.

I ended up getting another 13x13 3-blade instead of upgrading to a 4-blade. We've been skiing too much lately to justify the investment!

You cleaned your flame arrestor lately? I'm just asking because I suspect JimN will.

check the throttle linkage on the TBI, make sure you're getting full travel. I get about 4300-4400 with the 3 blade and 4000-4150 with the 4 blade. Do you know when the boat had the fuel filter changed, ignition wires, plugs, cap/rotor? Check the air cleaner as well - I had a friend who has a 94 205, had starting issues, full throttle issues; the boat had never had any maintenance other than oil/tranny fluid changes. His cap/rotor was green on the inside, original wires and plugs and his air filter was black. If none of the above, take it to a dealer and get it hooked up to the tech mate or later scanner. You may have a TPS issue or MAP sensor issue.

I just changed the plugs. I'll start with the fuel filter and go from there. I have the 3 blade prop. Does anyone know of an easy fix for a speedometer that isn't working? Blow out the line?

Replace the pitot pickup with one of the newer models available at www.skidim.com. Money well spent as they don't clog with near the frequency as the stock ones do. Only requires you drill new holes (in the new pitot pickup) to match the two holes on the boat. Fill the holes in the boat with 3m Marine sealant and screw it in. Attach the tube and you'll have your speedo back.

Easy fix? Install perfect pass. ;)

I assume your prop is in good shape.?.?
