It was 75 degrees here on Lake Shasta yesterday, so I had to get my boat de-winterized. I spent the day waxing and cleaning (thanks, Thrall) and took the boat out today. Unfortunately, it didn't get warm today like yesterday, but we went anyway. It was great to get out and ski. :D I just watched The Secret Spot and it gave me the bug. The water was really cold, even with full suit and thick gloves, but it was glassy!
It was only my wife, me, and the dog on the boat, so there was nobody to take a picture of the skiing, but this is what my wife looked like driving for me. I couldn't talk her into skiing today, but what a driver!
This is only the second time I've gotten to ski behind my MC. I bought it the end of Oct. and skied once in November, then winterized. I'll probably have to at least drain the engine again, but it was worth it.

i would have definately this week if i didnt have to work. i use my boat alot in the winter so i dont winterize. instead i put a light bulb in the engine compartment and an electric blanket set on med over the engine cover. so far no problems. i imagine the weather in shasta is close to sacramento. anyway just a thought so you dont have to go through the trouble every time a nice day comes around. but if it does freeze please dont blame me!

I'm still skiing !! I typically ski year round and have never winterized any of the boats I have owned ! 8p Heck, in the "dead of winter" it is around 40-50 degrees for a few days before the temp pops back up to 75. I will likely ski this weekend as the high Sunday is 75. I love Florida!

We've skied several times since Thanksgiving. Drysuits are a wonderful thing.
It's been 50s & partly sunny all week & I've been hoping to get out this weekend. But now the weather is turning & should be in the 30s & rain & snow.... a bit under my threshold at my age.

Yea, young and stupid. I would send in more digital pics but someone had the brilliant idea to take a few shots of the boat from the skier’s perspective. Need I say water and most cameras don’t mix? (please do not ask whose ‘idea’ it was…I plead the 5th). Warm here for the next few days. We are grilling and skiing today :woohoo:

We got out on Coeur d'Alene for about 2 or 3 hours before the Super Bowl on Sunday. Beautiful sunny skies, and glass as far as you could ski...... and balmy 37 degree water & 39 degree air temps.
Love to be in Florida, my 11 year old son took part in the annual ski and freeze, where he went on the Sky Ski to raise money for the local Childrens ward at the hospital. The water was a balmy 2.7C then spent the afternoon snowboarding. Only in Canada, eh! Cant wait for summer.

Last I went out was Jan 1, it was about 70 out and because I am lucky enough to have a nuclear power plant close by so the water temp is usually always about 60. However, I must admit it was the latest I have ever skied but it was worth winterizing my boat twice…

Was that in Lake Anna? Does the water on the power plant side stay liquid all year?

It’s Lake Anna. The coldest I have heard the water getting is 52. Of course this is right at the mouth of the plant. The set up is sweet. To the left of the mouth is a course in a tight cove so the other boaters don’t screw up the water. And off to the right is a huge area for boarders to do their tricks. The lake is huge and the cool thing is it’s really only the hard core folks who are out in the cold. When I was out in January it was just me and one other boat taking turns on the course.

Is it an added side benifit that the water glows in the dark from the reactor?????

I must admit my hull is particularly white this year. In contrast to when I have it in the brackish water of the northern neck.

Always is.... we winterize everytime we pull the boat in the winter. That may be 10 times or 50 times a year. But everytime I pull all the plugs, drain the block & exhaust, bump start the engine & maybe even refill the engine hoses with the pink stuff. Takes about 5 minutes.
Mark,
If we don't keep them fresh, they end getting spoiled :)

Been riding year round in NC, at least once a week every week. Water temp was 35 last week, had to break ice around the ramp when putting in. Back up to around 42 now though. Thank god for drysuits, dive boots, gloves & hoods !!!
We do have one heated lake (from coal power plant though), but rarely go there. Couple hrs away.

Bill,
Do you fog the motor too or just get rid of all the water / add antifreeze?

Bill,

You only need to fog the motor if your not going to use it for an extended period of time, ie; more than a month or two.
And use the pink anti-freeze because it's better for the environment so you can just start the boat in your driveway or wherever & blow it out.

That's what I figured, but then my follow up question is why do you pull the plugs? And bump start it?

We have had great weather in the mid 70s here in Orlando for the last several days. I have bean able to get in a slalom set behind my '05 MC TT 197 each day for the last 3 days. The water temp on my lake was up to 67 this evening when I skied. Can't complain about that!
The 2005 TT 197 is definitely the best MasterCraft that I have ever owned. It really skis great!

I wondered how the water temp was there. We thought about making the trip down during our ice storm last week. We did get a few sets in today but the pics are ... well ... it is difficult trying to drive and using the camera at the same time:
